your second quote is functionally identical to fusangite's #2 poll choice: changing the rules to make the game more fun == house rules.

My point is that he made two of the choices that don't agree with how he runs the game have negative connotations, while keeping the ones that agree with his view fairly neutral.

Asking if you change things when players are "unhappy" is kind of like asking "Do you cater to whiners?"

I'll second that... but you really should see the face of the rules-lawyer player in my game when someone says "What do the rules say about ... " and I reply "Don't worry about it" and procede to either let them do what they want to or explain why they can't.

I also think that if the players are doing something stupid you need to step outside of the rules to either help them or penalize them, depending on the circumstances.
