(Rumor) Sword & Sorcery to publish D20 Planescape?

As an aside, why would the PS3E people know about any deal with SSS and WotC? They wouldnt be contacted by SSS to obtain the Planescape rights. So there is no reason for them to know anything about it.

Well then I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Of course I'd recommend some one asking Monte. Perhaps he knows something.

AS a note, the rumor I qouted came from someone claiming to be involved with Planewalker, and was questioning the DND-L list exactly because they hadn't heard anything about it until some foreign distributo supposedly leaked the information from a industry source. Who knows... Thats why I put (rumor) in the subject :D

Scarred Lands is the single most supported 3E world by far. Nothing is even close. Ghelspad Gaz, Ghelspad Hardback, CC1 hardback, CC2 Hardback, Relics and Rituals (with Relics and Rituals 2 out soon), Divine and Defeated hardback, Wise and the Wicked, Wilderness and Wastelands, Hollofaust, Burok Torn, Warrens of the Rat Men, the list goes on and on.

PHB, DMG, MM, Psionics Handbook, Deities & Demigods, Manual of the Planes, Sword & Fist, Tome & Blood, Song & Silence, Defenders of the Faith, Masters of the Wild, Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, Dungeons & Dragons Gazetteer, Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, Living Greyhawk Journal, adventures in Dungeon Magazine, other articles in Dragon.

Looks like Greyhawk might come close :D

Still, Scarred Lands is good stuff, I heartily enjoy stealing material from it for my Greyhawk game.

Because planewalker has been given the rights to do the 3rd edition version of Planescape, that's why. If WotC sold it off, or were even thinking of selling it off, it would make sense to contact ps3e in order to make sure that no potential problems arose due to the legal side of things (I'm pretty sure that if SSS gained the rights then ps3e would have to make some significant changes, not least of which would be the removal of the 'official' tag - remember that at the moment, the 3rd edition of Planescape that ps3e is making will be official.

Sure, but none of that would have to be done until the deal was done. If it is still in negotiations, WotC is under no obligation to let ps3e know. WotC is notoriously shell lipped about broadcasting its business decisions ahead of time.

I would be immensely surprised if the contract WOTC has with the people running Planewalker doesn't allow WOTC to unilaterally pull out of it.

It could be....

I mean, part of me hopes it is. Planescape is fuggin' awesome, after all. :)

But another part of me kinda wonders....

If S&S *is* buying PS, I'd think that Wizards would have let those working on the official 3e version know. I mean, they probably don't have to, but I don't see why they wouldn't. It's good news all around. They'd probably want to make sure Branno and Ken and everone (or is that eveyrone?) could tell the rest of the PS3e Community, and get the word out.

If it's still in discussion, it may not be revealed to us yet, but it probably will be at some point.

Basically, S&S has a good record for this...I mean, they took Ravenloft, used what the online community generated, and gave it some new life. They could, in theory, take another much-loved setting (even something like Dark Sun or Birthright, but PS seems to have a bit more clout than at least the latter) and do the same.

Of all the settings they could take, PS seems to be the most unlikely. All the intellectual property invested in it -- mostly in the form of the Greath Wheel, the WotC gods, the Lady of Pain, etc. is fairly deeply intertwined with Wizards, and after the Manual of the Planes came out, it just got it's own form of 3e mutation.

Not that I'm saying it's not happening. I'm not sure even Brannon would know if it's happening or not, though he seems to have quite a peachy relationship with the Wizard people. I'll ask him about it in communication with him, and hopefully we'll get something. :)

Well, theoreticly, someone already DID pick up Dark Sun... AEG, was it? I think that was the group.

That leaves, of the "non traditional fantasy" settings...

Spelljammer (Other than the little Dungeon game)... probably nobody will pick it up, but it would be cool to see a Spelljammer Campagin Accessory or something from Fantasy Flight Games, for Dragonstar.

Planescape (Unconfirmed, anyhow)

Birthright (Come on... someone... please pick it up...)

Anything else?

Mystara, one of the original D&D worlds. I'd love to see it in d20.

If AEG does Dark Sun though, I may have to play that instead. Choices, choices......
