Run for Your Lives! The Slivers are Comming!

slivers

I just want to give my congrats to the designing of the slivers... I wasn't aware of the new slivers since I stopped collecting MTG cards... but now that I know they are there I probably will update my sliver collection. I am enjoying reading bout the slivers but I think the counterpart to the mindwhip sliver should have an 18 int and I think it was a 12 wis... mindwhip has a 12 int and a 18 wis... so I would reverse those two... just a thought... keep up the good work :)

Another specialist sliver, the spined sliver, can only be described as the commando's of sliver society.
A spined sliver has skin the color of rotting meat, shifting in blue, green and red hues. The slivers entire back, tentacles, and claw is covered in long spines in a variety of colors. The long spines that cover the slivers body also gives it excellent protection.

Combat:
Spined slivers a bred for combat, using their long spines and tentacles to grapple their opponents, so that other slivers can more easily attack them.
Improved Grab (Ex): If a spined sliver hits with its claw attack, it may attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of oppertunity. No initial touch attack is required, and the sliver can grapple any creature that isn't incorporeal or ethereal. Due to the long spines that cover the spined sliver it gets a +4 bonus on all grapple checks.
Shared Ability (Ex): All slivers within a 60' radius of the spined sliver grow long spines that grant them a damage reduction of 5/+1 and access to the Improved Grab special ability of the spined sliver.

Victual Slivers are the specialist healers of the sliver hive.
The skin of the victual sliver is a transparent silvery hue, allowing creatures that watch the sliver to see it's intestins and skeleton. This can be quite unsettling to someone who has never seen a victual sliver before.
Victual slivers are most often encountered in the sliver queens chamber, helping the newborn proto-slivers to feed.

Combat:
Victual Slivers usually hang back, letting their shared abilites power up their kin. If pressed the sliver will defend itself to the best of its ability.
Death Throes (Ex): When slain, the victual sliver lets loose a burst of positive energy similar to that of a healing circle spell, healing 1d8+20 hp to all creatures within a 20' radius burst centered on the victual sliver.
Shared Abilities (Ex): All slivers within 60' of the victual sliver gains fast healing 5 or have their existing fast healing increased by 5. The slivers also gain the death throes ability of the victual sliver.

Please tell me what you think :D

LAter,

Okay -- on the Victual Sliver...

Does this mean that if you have four of these slivers within 60' of one another that all of them have FH 25, and that every other sliver within 60' of those four would have FH 20? Am I doing the math on this right?

Mordane76: Yes... Nasty, isn't it... <Evil Grin>

blackshirt5: Yes, the sliver queen will be making an appearance this week... All CR 24 of her... :D
So what did you think of the spined and victual slivers?

Later,

Working this out in my head...

How does one stop a swarm of mixed slivers? I can't think of a force that could properly stop a swarm of mixed slivers with anything less than high-level, massive-damage spells like meteor swarm or well-placed, high-level, maximized and empowered fireballs. It just seems that either one wipes out the slivers or gets wiped out by the slivers.

Moving up to the next organizational level -- could ANYTHING stop a hive? How long does it take a hive to sweep over a planet, because I simply don't see a way, with a hive constituted by multiple several hundred specimens of the different slivers, that these creatures could be opposed; they should simply spread across the worlds they inhabit like wildfire.

Exactly, nothing short of a complete apocalypse can stop a sliver hive, and then there is always some missinformed wizard that resurrects one (See the current storyline in M:TG, if you play it.) Nothing short of a high level group can stop a sliver swarm, and nothing short of an epic level group can exterminate a hive :D

But fortunatly, slivers rarely expand that much, which is why the average hive size is roughly 2000 slivers, and there rarely are more than one hive to any given world or planar layer.

Slivers are by nature neutral, and is governed by a creature with the intelligence of an ancient dragon, not to mention the mnemonic, mindwhip and 'noble' slivers (Brood, Essence, Magma, Synapse, and Toxin.) who all are quite intelligent :D
