Run for Your Lives! The Slivers are Comming!

Looking good. Only one question; shouldn't the Sliver's 'shared abilities' be Supernatural in stead of Extraordinary? Or if not, could you explain how the sharing works?

do I really want to know? :eek!

I'm not sure anyone knows how the sharing works ... 'cept maybe some twisted entity like cthululuthul-achoo

Robbert Raets: It is *Extraordinary* cause it works by pheromones (sp?) activating latent genetics. In other words, slivers are at the apex of evolution. They are in every sense of the word *perfect* organisms.

Wolf72: Well Lanariel Shadowwing knows how it works, and I would hardly call her twisted, evil and mayby insane, but definetly not twisted.

Stupid fact: There are no male slivers!

(Robb almost goes into Darwinistic mode...) "Oh wait, it's just a game."

(Robb goes back into D20 mode) I'll resist the temptation to get into Real-World (that is medical, not MTV, FYI) biological mechanics. Thanks mr. Nath!

Stupidder Fact: That's the third time you've said that :D

Well I won't... the sharing being extraordinary is the only problem I think I have with the Slivers. I understand that the idea is to keep people from using antimagic field or luring slivers into fights in dead-magic zones, and I have no real problem with their individual abilities being extraordinary to the individual sliver. I just wish there was a more solid answer to their sharing than a chemical normally used as a insect and animal sex signal. Perhaps make it supernatural, and something akin to the Shadow Weave from FRCS, so that combating their sharing is incredibly difficult, but not impossible beyond killing them.

Perhaps we should use Occam's Razor (Occam's Sliver?):

If it doesn't fit as a Spell-like Ability, and it doesn't fit as a Supernatural ability, then the remaining choice, Extraordinary, however improbable, must be the conclusion.

:)

Mordane76: Ah, but you see, the thing is that pheromones can and will be used to other thing than sex. A certain species of south american ant for example, uses pheromones to enslave other species of ants, in effect brainwashing them, It has also been proven that elm trees that get elm-disease produce pheromones that warn other trees in their vicinity that they're sick so that the other trees can bolster their resistances before becoming infected. So it is not impossible that some creature out there in the great black yonder uses pheromones for other uses.

Now, nothing prevents you to change it for your campaign worlds, but it makes sense from the slivers perspective that it is pheromones, as that makes sure that the abilities work under all circumstances.

True. Besides, one can make an in-game case for either direction, really. As an example, a doppelganger's Alter Self ability is listed as Supernatural, while a Mimic's ability to Mimic Shape is listed as an Extraordinary ability.

Exactly, The same can be said of the vampires Spider Climb ability, or the monstrous spiders Web. Both are usually spells, but on these particular creatures it's extraordinary.
