D&D 5E Running the classics in 5e - best of the best?

What are the best previous edition modules available for running in 5e with minimal work?
  • I'm interested in not just big modules like Rise of the Runelords and Red Hand of Doom, but some of the shorter ones as well.
  • Bonus points if it is available via a PDF store.

I'm running Rise of the Runelords now, but I'd love to break out my copies of White Plume Mountain and Shrine of the Kuo Toa for a 5E run-through.

Any 3E era or Pathfinder adventure should be easy to convert, monster stat blocks before then don't have ability scores and for conversions/saves and stuff I find it much easier if there are ability scores.

One of the first adventures I ran with the playtest material was The Sunless Citadel, and it was wonderful everyone had a great time. Here is a link to the pdf at dndclassics http://www.dndclassics.com/product/3727/The-Sunless-Citadel-3e?it=1

Here is a video EnWorld put out about a year ago with what the results of the top 15 adventures of all time.
Maybe you can get some good ideas from it.

I forgot to mention the two published adventures I am running right now.

Sundays is a conversion of a Pathfinder Megadungeon called The Emerald Spire http://paizo.com/products/btpy8yqx?Pathfinder-Module-The-Emerald-Spire-Superdungeon
I have a pdf of the maps and running it on roll20 is very cool.

Friday night is Ravenloft I6, http://www.dndclassics.com/product/17527/I6-Ravenloft-1e?it=1&filters=0_44713_0 using a conversion someone did and posted on reddit here, http://www.reddit.com/r/dndnext/comments/2fxgh3/i6_ravenloft_converted_to_5e_in_time_for_halloween/

Good gaming.

I would recommend B10 Night's Dark Terror (available from DnD Classics/RPGNow). It is a really cool adventure for Basic D&D that was released well past the heyday of Basic, so not many people have played it.

I'd also second Gates of Firestorm Peak - one of the best 2E adventures published.

Another recommendation for B10 - I used it for my 4e campaign, and it was still giving me interesting stuff up through 15th level. It doesn't use many non-standard monsters, so shouldn't be hard to convert. Though it doesn't fit your desire for "shorter" adventures.

I liked Heathen, from a free Dungeon magazine from the early 4e period: available here. It can easily be made short by cutting out some of the random filler and focusing just on the key half-dozen-or-so encounters.

I haven't had the chance to run it yet, but I'm planning to start my next campaign as a sandbox that starts with Keep on the Borderlands and then expands. I've actually rebuilt the entire module, in terms of maps, in the Roll20 engine. (Using important maps found online, mostly.)

I'll report how it goes, but it'll be a while.

I'm currently running ToEE, and that hasn't required too much in the way of conversion. Mostly magic items and finding equivalent creatures. Might be more work than you're interested in, however.

White Plume Mountain should be easy, especially since the three named weapons are in the DMG (which would have been the hardest to convert).

Keep on the Borderlands was redone during the playtest, so it would be a super easy conversion as well.

Not classics (but faves of mine), I did the Sentinel and the Gauntlet during the playtest, and it required almost no work to convert (I substituted the Kobold stats for the Xvarts).

Those are two of my favorite old school adventures, fond memories of playing through them as a kid.

I highly recommend (i) the Isle of Dread, and (ii) Last breaths of Ashenport. You just substitute monsters/items (or roll for items) you like and off you go.

I've found 5e is excellent for using adventures from past editions. Ease of conversion is a huge feature for DMs of 5e ime.
