Matters to who, or in what context? If they are asking for $100 plus shipping for the "print plus PDF complete" version, it certainly matters to me.

Note that I am not saying a KS has to come with known names in the RPG design space. But if it doesn't, it should come with a big fat preview or quickstart or beta that convinces me that the final product will, in fact, be playable.

I saw someone, maybe it was a tweet copied to the forum I dont know, remarking how you can make a successful kickstarter out of a 5e based hotdog class or something.

Now I dont know the full backstory, maybe the kickstarter had a good pedigree or something, but I get the impression that if you have a base of support, and can forward polished product, you have a good chance at success.

It LOOKS put together. This is my struggle with 3PP stuff right now. Theres a lot out there that LOOKS great, but is it? What is it that determines 'great' anyway?

I dont know, feels overwhelming at times.
Not what, but who. This Kickstarter by the looks of it is going to be a success for a number of reasons. And then several months from now, we are going to be getting the Beta version of the PDF. It will be looked at from front to back by those who will look it over and read it. We'll offer them our opinions and our critiques. They'll make adjustments based off of we say, and then they'll make the final version.

Will it be perfect? No, there will be several somethings about that we won't be crazy about. But we can homebrew something to fix those issues. Will everyone like/love it? No, there will always be someone who won't and will think that they wasted their time and money on seeing the Kickstarter through. Will we borrow what we like and use it elsewhere? Of course! 😋

Great is what you make of it. ;)

To be clear, I'm not against this product. I just was pondering the rocket like success and potential reasons.

It's cool. I am wondering about what is it about this Kickstarter's rapid rise to success as well. :)

I mean I can only speak for myself but.

1. It looks cool.
2. The Avatar is a recent (ish, as my now Adult son grew up on it) cultural touchstone.
3. People absolutely love the japanese mythology being leveraged.
4. Everyone loves big monsters.
5. Its got that pokemon thing going on.
6. Samurai/Ninja = Success.

Heck, MtG had a set based on some of this, and then another set based on the rest! Its easy to see the appeal.

The only thing putting me off, is the long time till delivery. I wish I could just like...buy these things.

Well they’ve had at least two other big kickstarters. One very huge one. The company at least isn’t coming out of nowhere.

I’d go look at the previous kickstarters and read the comments.

I haven’t so I dunno what’s there but I’m not backing it. It does look cool though.

It's well advertised. It draws on anime and manga. It draws on Japanese folklore. The artwork looks amazing. It covers several niches that many/most 5E players have been wanting for years. The people behind the Kickstarter have a good reputation. The face of the Kickstarter has a good-sized audience.
