(S.S. Fortuna) Rhaavin - Broken Anchor Alehouse

Arkhandus

First Post
The Broken Anchor Alehouse is an old, run-down inn and tavern by the docks of Rothinos, the major port city of Rhaavin. The building is large and two-storied, with a handful of small rooms upstairs, a large common room downstairs, and a big kitchen in back. It is a loud, rowdy place filled with sailors and rare few others. It constantly reeks of sweat, brine, and smoked meats, but comfortable for many a sailor. Various torches and candles light the common room in the evening, and a few windows allow dim light during the day. The barkeep and serving wenches all carry clubs to ward off rowdy sailors, who often start fights that typically end up with the barkeep, Heimyr, knocking everyone unconscious with a seemingly-endless supply of tossed mugs.

The Alehouse is currently run by Heimyr Sabreheim, a middle-aged hill dwarf and former sailor, who constantly complains about how much the old owner let the place fall apart. Heimyr is rude, boisterous, and wise-cracking, and will curse and shout and threaten anyone who tries to leave without buying a drink first. However, he has a certain knack for keeping the customers around, and many a sailor enjoys the dwarf's scathing humor.

Most likely, it is the fine variety of ales, rums, and other brews that Heimyr serves up, many of them homebrewed, some imported. His Drakendraught dwarven rum is probably the most bitter and powerful brew available in Rothinos --- many patrons think it's made with dragon's bile or something. The dwarf and his cadre are mean cooks, and make some of the finest seafood in the area, but the rest of the food is only passably edible, ranging from pork and bacon to hard breads and cheeses.

Torgar free for a time from the cramped decks of the S.S. Fortuna and being very Thirsty and hungry makes his way to the Broken Anchor, Ale, Ale required and a Hog roast. Tell the barkeep to keep the ale coming until i fall into a Stupor.

Torgar, Griddle, and Fleown settled down at a table in the Broken Anchor Alehouse and had a hearty meal of roasted hog, some cheese, lots of ale, and a few other things. They discussed whether or not there was anything to do in Rothinos or Rhaavin in general, and Griddle mentioned that the group might be able to do some work for one of the two Druid Groves of Rhaavin, or maybe some work for (or against) the thieves' guild, or hunt some gnolls for the 10-gp-bounty on gnoll heads, as gnolls were stirring up trouble in the southwest of Rhaavin's main island. While discussing the latter, a young mage named Aden Moore chimed in and joined the group for some gnoll-hunting.

The party sought out a local man called Old Man Tripper, who was known for a particularly successful tactic he used many times before to lure in and slay gnoll packs. He would drive a large, wealthy-looking wagon or cart out through the wilderness roads and lure in gnolls who thought the old codger's cart would be easy plunder..... And when they attacked, the cart or wagon would open up to reveal a squad of experienced warriors, slaughtering the hapless gnolls. Fleown, Griddle, Torgar, and Aden went to the old man's house in the northwest corner of Rothinos, and spoke with the elder. Old Man Tripper had lost his legs during a storm at sea, and was now rather grizzled and bitter, but offered to help out the party when they mentioned the gnoll hunting. After a brief chat, the party left to seek out some help for fighting the gnolls, and to figure out what sort of plan to use......

Torgar moves around the Inn chatting to the patron's and enquiring whether anyone has a cart that the party can borrow or Hire for the task at hand, whilst doing so Torgar will spread the word of the Great Gnoll hunt, mentioning civic duty and of course pride. Also that there is a bounty to be had for any Gnolls brought to book. I would buy everyone a drink but the prices are a bit steep in this location. Torgar would also like to find the location for a weaponsmith, or weapon trader, he would like to purchase a replacement throwing Axe and possibly buy a Hammer.

Floewn will interview sailors on the docks (not just the Fortuna) for hearty lads who may be looking for a fight and/or some extra coin while on leave

Fleown asks around the docks and talks to various sailors in town, and finds two who might be willing to help slay some gnolls. An old marine and a younger swashbuckler both agree to help out if they can have a fair cut of the bounty collected. The older sailor, named Lars, enthusiastically accepts the chance for some exciting gnoll-hunting, having been too long without a good fight to stir his old blood. Davros Sarnath is the younger man, a hot-headed lad itching to use his cutlass once more, though it doesn't seem that he's got much experience.

Torgar chats it up with some other bar patrons, but since this is a sailor's tavern, no one around here has a cart ; not much use for one on the sea. Of course, the dwarf does learn where carts are sold in town, and learns where a few local farmers and merchants live, so he can inquire as to any of them loaning out a cart.

Locals are aware of the gnoll bounty, but there aren't a lot of local folk who want to risk striking at the gnolls right now. Torgar does learn, however, that the Sterling Cutlass tavern is frequented by mercenaries and adventurers, on the west side of town, who would certainly be able to help for a price. You'll have to ask around other places if you want to find brave locals willing to fight gnolls, as Rothinos is more a merchant port than anything else.

Torgar learns of a skilled local weaponsmith a few blocks away, Faldrek Raenson, and hears of several weapon traders about town whom he could speak with otherwise.

Torgar hotfoots it to the Sterling Cutlass to try and find some brave souls who wish to sign on for the great Gnoll Hunt, if successful he will then move around town looking for a cart for hire before visiting the weaponsmith for some bartering.

Torgar recruits a few young mercenaries at the Sterling Cutlass, and later finds a merchant in town who loans a good, sturdy cart to the dwarf. Torgar spends 10 gold pieces in the process of all this, buying drinks for some folks, paying the mercenaries for a few days, and renting the cart.

((OOC, you know, the Tavern boards are meant for roleplaying, not just briefly describing your actions.... I'd like to see some actual RPing on the boards...))
