S1: The Strange Case of Aif Jenkins' Farm (E13 judge) - Concluded

Well, this game's pretty stalled. Maybe we're waiting for El Jefe's opinion, but you guys need to make a plan of some sort, then I'll move on with the action!

ooc: Agreed. That's why I went back and re-read the thread (including things Banion doesn't know) immediately before my last post.

[sblock=Meta game strategy suggestions]OK, here are a few thingsa Banion doesn't know:

1. The guys we just fought said (under their breath) back in the prior town that they should bring the halflings along to feed to the wolves. Boog and Beamer both made the listen checks, Banion did not. This may be what got Beamer thinking about wolves.

2. Brother E was specifically told that one place to look for our missing Paladin would be the Silverwood. (I think I've got the name of the woods right, some woods anyway.)

3. The Paladin was last seen in the company of two men that have a relationship with wolves -- which are, obviously, forest creatures.

It's my conclusion as a player that we ought to go huntin' in the woods. Banion doesn't know any of that though, so...

Well, that's why I'm at a stall anyway. Others?[/sblock]

ooc: As to the halflings goals, Banion's more than happy to put visiting a relative on the back burner now that something more interesting has come up. If we run out of leads, Banion might suggest his uncle as a possible local contact, but he has no immediate intention to do so.

When no one speaks up about tracking skills, Beamer says, "I could ask the innkeeper if they have any hunting dogs, if we want to try to find these two. Toler and Rafferty may know more about Torvin's whereabouts."

OOC: Beamer's original goal with Banion was to find somewhere safe from the people who may or may not be chasing them. The company of Juliana, Boog, and Eusebius qualifies as a safe place. He prefers to go after Toler and Rafferty, but if that's not possible he is happy to continue on to Braeholl with the others.

Note that Beamer failed the listen check about wolves and I had not read that line until now.

I guess Torvin shouldn't have ignored the two fairly capable halflings when choosing who came along on the wagon ride.

No one at the small fort has useful tracking skills. And no dogs are available which could serve that purpose for the group.

The group is on the edge of the Silverwood. Reinert is heading into the thick of it this very morning. But Silverwood is a large place, and Reinert will tell anyone who asks that his friend in there lives alone, and he's not aware of anyone else in there.

OOC: I've been waiting for Eusebius (who seems to have had a name change to Coraine:confused: ) since he's in charge as far as Juliana's concerned. She did says she thinks following him would be a good idea though.

[sblock=OOC]Sorry about the long silence - RL with a vengeance, I'm afraid. Thanks for the heads-up about the name: another game, another character. Just showing some of the confusion of the time. And now, back to our normal transmission.[/sblock]
Waiting only for Reinert to leave the room and go about his preparations, Eusebius turns to the others and says, "Torvin Akenthrasher is a powerful servant of the Shining One. He is a paladin who has defeated many an evil foe. But recently he disappeared."

"He had gone to the Silverwood to investigate rumours of the growth of something evil - a malignant force which may well be summoning all manner of baneful creatures to its cause. He did not return."

"Then a pilgrim reported having seen him in Beth Hannon - but Torvin would not, or could not, acknowledge fellowship with the man. It appears that he has lost his memory."

"He was buying supplies, but the pilgrim did not know where he was headed."

Eusebius paused and looked around the group, a troubled expression on his face.

"All this the high priest told me - and he told me, too, to keep this a secret. He feared that the enemies of the church might take advantage of Torvin's absence. It seems to me, though, that we have just had dealings with these very enemies - and that they are, in some foul way, responsible for the corruption of the Lightbringer's son."

"We have shared the dangers of battle together - some of us more than once. My father in the god instructed me to find companions I could trust. I believe that I have found them in you. Will you help me find this good man, and rescue him from the forces which seek to keep him in ignorance of his true identity?"

[sblock=OOC]That long post will have to do for now. :o Next:
  • Tell them the extent of the reward.
  • Come up with a plan about where to go first.

Beamer's not overly concerned about a promised reward. Aiding a powerful, good religious organization would provide an excellent counter point to his antagonizing a power, evil religious organization.

"You can count on me as well."

OOC: Cool plot set up, Manz!

I'd forgetten to mention earlier tha everyone is entitled to a DC 12 knowledge(religion) check. Let me know if you make it.
OoC: Is that true even if you don't have knowledge(religion)? You usually can only make DC10 checks if you don't have any knowledge in a subject.
