S1: The Strange Case of Aif Jenkins' Farm (E13 judge) - Concluded

Manzanita said:
The orc reacts violently when Eusebius grabs his wrist to take the glove. He jerks back his hand and punches blindly at the monk. Eusebius easily avoids the not-unexpected blow.

Inside, the man visibly relaxes as Juliana puts away the brand. "Thank you." he says. "These orcs attacked us in force. We had no chance. Who are you?"

Juliana take a spot check DC 15. Did you bring that symbol of Seto you found in the Assassins saddle bags? If so, who has it? The warhorses didn't go far. The mule went to the treeline, and has stopped to eat grass.
OOC: Juliana's spot check (1d20+2=6)

"I am Juliana," she says as the finishes untying the bonds. "Please, tell me, why do you think these orcs would attack you. Surely this was no random attack."

The man stands painfully after being released. He can barely walk from having been so tightly bound. "I don't know why they attacked us. I just work here. They're orcs. They hate us. Did you kill them all?"

Beamer [sblock] Beamer thinks he's not being honest[/sblock]

He stumbles, trying to walk deeper into the house. "My boss is locked in the basement with the others. We must let them out."

Beamer lends his meager strength to help Banion bring the unconscious orcs in. Their huge arms and legs feel like tree trunks to the tiny halfling, but he does his best. Inside, he's glad to see that their mad rush into battle did some good as it apparently saved this poor man from a branding. He does not recognize the odd tattoo Eusebius pointed out.

"Hate rarely brings a force this size," Juliana says. "No mater, if you can't speak without your master, then perhaps we'd best ask him."

Over the mindlink, Beamer says, You're right Juliana, I think he's lying. These orcs were organized, that much is plain. He might have something powerful in the basement.

The man staggers back into the room the party came through when they enter the house through the porch. Against the East wall is a door, which has a chair braced under it to keep it from being opened in. The man pushes the chair aside. He then slides back the bolt keeping it locked, and opens it.

The party enters, cautiously, with the man. A stairway leads to a wine cellar and storage area. Barrels and boxes line the walls, and drying vegitables hang from the ceiling. Four men sit uncomfortably against the damp walls. Two are badly injured. All four are tightly bound, gagged, and blindfolded. They all look like farmers or farmhands.

On seeing or being told of the discovery, Banion thinks the following over the link:

Presumably the farmers. Good. I'd been halfway worried there had been some sort of tricky spell and the Orcs might be the farmers.

He might only be told of it, because I think he's still busy with the orcs.

Banion will use the rope that had been binding the man to the chair to tie up the captured Orcs. He'll conserve rope by only tying their hands in back of them rather than hogtying them completely. More importantly, he'll remove from all the Orcs any weapons, armor, coins or other things of value they might have.

Eusebius moves to the side of the injured men to assess their wounds and prays for healing from the Shining One.

[sblock=OOC]Fr E has 4 orisons and 1 second level spell left uncast. That equates to 4 CMW and 1 CModW. He'll assess the relative need for healing (Heal +6) and act accordingly. If it looks like he can get away with not using the CModW, he'll keep it in reserve, given that they don't know what else they may be facing.[/sblock]

The two injured men are at 0 hps. So they're not in danger of dying, but can't function well. Will Father E cast spells on them? Are you going to untie them?

Banion checks the bodies of the fallen orcs. They are equipped almost identically to the ones slain on the road. They have evidently travelled some way. None carry any cash, but all have ornate horns which might have some value. Inside the farmhouse, the party can see backpacks in the main room. One for each orc. Each pack, like those found on the road, carry several days worth of rations, as well as gear, such as rope, grappling hooks, spare socks, hachets, knives and such. Their equipment is very standard. This would imply these orcs are organized, and part of larger organization. Normally, chaotic orcs equip themselves haphazardly, and usually carelessly. These orcs seems to have been equipped with military precision.

The party still hasn't checked the rest of the house (which is two stories), nor have they looked in the barn, which contined at least two orcs.
