S2: War in Vastermarch - Completed

Nodis is certain that he doesn't hav any special weapon, and doubts Razh, Talbin or Ogrin have one. About the newcomers, that's doubtful. He thinks he knows about the orc's intentions.

"You're testing us" says Nodis "You are ready to attack whoever has it, but are not sure of who has the weapon, so you don't want to waste warriors attacking everyone you meet in the road. If we tried to negotiate something else for whatever weapon you're looking for, you'd order you swi... orcs to attack."

"Well, we can save you your time, your warriors and very possibly your life - we don't have any weapon except those you can see right now"

ooc: Bluff check, if needed: 19; Nodis doesn't do anything special before th battle other that not being at the front ranks.

Notice that the two Astral Servants are merely utilitarian, they are virtually worthless in combat

While the orc negotiattor offers his proposal and the orc band formt he south draws closer, Talbin looks closely at the woods. He triws to spot any of the orcs in there and meanwhile find a good ppoint to get into the woods into a good sniping position.

Rasereit holds his tongue, leaving the negotiations to more capable people, but his big knuckles are turning white as they clench around his waraxe.

OOC: Nothing special, just wearing armor as usual and wielding spiked shield + waraxe.

Ogrin, too, is tense. He fidgets with his stuff, glancing around and about. He ensures his shield is strapped to his arm, his hand resting on his sword hilt. He leans over towards Razh, whispering: "I've never seen an old orc before. You?"

OOC: No special preparations, but he tries to spread the group out a little, so that a well placed magical strike will not engulf all of them.

Beamer stays near Eusebius and casts a mage armor spell on him as well.

OOC:
Spells remaining: 5/5/5. Boddynock is correct, it was Banion helping Torvin with his armor. Beamer doesn't know or care the first thing about armor. ;)

"Nah, Ah haven'. Though t'be honest, Ah never heard one talk before, either," Rasereit whispers. Joking aside, "Ah don't like lettin' 'em talk, 'cause they just do it t'steal time an' catch ye off guard. But other folks always seem t'overrule me, ye know?" He jerks his head in a vague, 'over there' kind of gesture.

The villagers and soldiers look to the adventurers for direction. They stop otherwise, since there is an orc in front of them.

"You have no orc weapons, then? I have been led to believe otherwise." snaps the old orc. "Perhaps you doubt that we can kill you all? Well, doubt no more!" He turns back to the North trail and shouts "Validus, come!"

Moments later, a huge figure detaches itself from the forest and steps onto the road. It is a two headed humanoid monster, nearly 15 feet tall. It wears dirty chainmail, holds a mace in it's right hand, and a javlein in its left. Over its shoulder is a quiver of more javelins. At its belt is a battle axe. It is about 100 feet away.

Torvin speaks to Beamer, who seems basically helpless, but thanks Banion for his help.

You are evidently surrounded. Talbin sees some glints of metal in the woods. If anyone has any directions for the wagons or soldiers or villagers or merchants, you should give them now. Please note your weapons and spells, and if you are mounted. I'll put together a map.

Beamer eyes Torvin as he speaks, but makes no move toward him. Beamer is not to trust easily. He instead stays near Eusebius, a man who has earned his trust.

OOC: I think Beamer and Banion were sharing a horse before Torvin asked for help with his armor, so presumably, Banion dismounted and climbed on the wagon to help Torvin with his armor leaving Beamer mounted alone. Also, Beamer is near Eusebius.

I hope you mean that Torvin (not Beamer) seems basicially helpless.

ooc: Does Validus have one or more transparent skulls that shoot lightning bolts? And is there a particularly fierce axe wielding guy about... perhaps the messenger himself? Hmm... javelins of lightning? I hope we all get flight rings at the end of this! ;)

Banion will continue to help with the armor, though events seem to be coming to a head too soon for that job to be finished. Banion is no longer mounted, having ceded the horse to Beamer when he went to help with the armor. His hands are free, but his mindblade is charged and can (finally!) be called forth as a free action once per round.

"Perhaps Tharok has a human relic of equal value to trade? Were he to throw such an object in to the bargain, we would consider letting him live as well."

(Banion's stalling for time, his bluff check is at -1.)

You missed Persuader, who was killed earlier in S2. I didn't attempt to extensively model this fatal 5 on the original

As for Torvin and Beamer. Since Torvin has regained consciousness, he hasn't seen Beamer cast any spells. As such, a lightly armed halfling doesn't seem very powerful to him.
