S3: The Scythe of Seto (Bront Judging)[Completed]

"Give me a head start and I'll scout it out so we know what we're dealing with." Banion requests.

[Presumably no one objects to this.]

Banion will attempt to sneak in unseen. Once he sees a bad guy, he will attempt to sneak back to the party unseen and report. He will not engage before reporting, even if the odds seem in his favor and/or there are hostages in jeopardy. He believes that the first duty of a scout is to report back.

He will take 10 on his stealth checks.

Take 10 on hide: 27
Take 10 on move silently: 25

Banion is able to sneak up to the mouth of the cave. Perhaps a pack of large wolves have entered the cave recently; he can't be sure. Surely there is a well-used trail inside, but maybe that's just from Trimble. He sees no piles of dog droppings. The cave does smell a bit, but he can't place it.

The cave as a wide mouth, about 15 feet. Inside, he can still see somewhat, in the fading daylight. He can see a broad, pool, with moving water. On a boulder next to the pool is an odd little saddle. It's about halfling sized. Next to it is a woolen blanket, looking old and ratty. Further inside, as his eyes adjust the darker interior, he thinks he sees a small figure sleeping near the pool on a pile of blankets.

Banion will pause to listen (1d20+11) to see if he can pick up any additional usefull information. Then he will sneak back to his colleagues and report.

"Looks like it might be a goblin wolfrider, as we thought. I saw a saddle of the apropriate size and a sleeping figure that might have been a goblin. Didn't see a wolf or any additional goblins, but they could be deeper inside the cave. They could also be out, which could cause complications if they happen to do so while we are leaving."

"Let me head back in, I'll take a position in hiding and wait for you all to aproach. Clearly, we have some questions for the sleeper, whether or not he does turn out to be a goblin."

Banion will add possibly hearing a wolf in the back of the cave to his report.

"It would be better if we could take them alive." he concludes.

Rasereit grunts. Whispering hoarsely he says, "Ah'm not s'good at the whole take-'em-alive thing. Gobboes tend t'be a bit too squishy for me weapons, if ye know what Ah mean. Ah guess Ah could smack 'em with the flat..." He shrugs and pricks his finger on one of his shield spikes, doubting that he could deal less-than-lethal damage with the thing.

OOC: Taking -4 to attack rolls, we could deal nonlethal damage.

"I'll lead off with a burst of glitterdust. It might blind the goblin or the wolf and should make them easier to find if they should try to run away."
