The white barbarian in front of Beamer smiles broadly as he is given the opportunity to advance. Eagerly he gathers his spear and hustles forward.

Black responds by moving forward the other minotaur knight, again towards the center. It threatens Rasereit, and by the way it glares at him, the dwarf knows it hopes its king will give it the chance.

Rasereit glares back at the minotaur, daring it to come. "Looks like this bull wants to charge. Shall we let 'im, or shall Ah sidestep t'the right?"

OOC: Moving Rasereit 1 square right keeps the King's Pawn protected (in case the other minotaur captures it) and puts the threatening minotaur in check, as it's only guarded by lowly skeletons.

"If you sidestep, a pawn can move forward and threaten you while guarded by the knight. How much like chess is this likely to be? If it's a fight rather than an automatic loss, maybe moving forward to attack the pawn in front of you, then dueling the bishop on the counterstrike would be wise? That is, if you think you can take them both."

Rasereit sizes up the black bishop. "Aye, Ah kin take 'im."

OOC: Assuming the black bishops are comparable to the white, it should be a piece of cake. Though... it might be a good idea to watch a battle between constructs first, before putting the PCs in combat.

"If you want to avoid putting one of us in combat first, diagonally move back towards our lines -- step towards the king. That'll give you some time to advance a pawn into a threatened position."

Whatever your move, you also need to consider defense. Your King's pawn is being threatened by the black minotaur knight. If he is attacked, what will he do? Rage at first opportunity? Use power attack? And do you want him to put away his warhammer & shield to take up his longspear? Or ready a throwing axe? I plan on completing NPC combats in a single post, but that assumes your strategy is simple & preordainded. At your request, I will do any given battle round by round, and allow you to direct your NPC's every move. Perhaps someone should assign himself as defensive coordinator & plot NPC defensive strategy. There are 5 of you, after all, I don't want anyone getting bored.

"Move to the side, Rasereit. We want to be able to pay back any of ours that are lost. If the pawn steps forward, then we'll send our 'king's protector' after it."

To the pawn in front of him, Beamer says, "If that minotaur attacks you, poise yourself to strike when he steps within range of your hammer. Once he is, give him hell!"

OOC:
I like Rae's idea to step one squre right. If Black advances the queen's pawn, then we can capture it with our king's pawn. This should give us the chance to see a fight between NPCs first while not giving up much in board position.

If anyone wants to be the defensive coordinator, that's be cool with me. For now, if the knight attacks the barbarian, the barbarian should ready to take a 5' step toward the minotaur and attack as soon as the minotaur is within range. If he survives the initial blow, then rage and attack with warhammer and shield, taking 5' steps if necessary to stay in melee.
