Can someone create Oil of Secret Page?

(Actually, I'm somewhat puzzled as to where Oil of Bless Weapon and Oil of Shillelagh come from. The Brew Potion feat can't create them, and they aren't Wondrous Items... :\ )

-Hyp.

Why not?

Edit: Nevermind, I just read the rest of the thread.

In case anyone cares about my two peanuts' worth, I agree with Hyp that the RAW (Bow down to RAW! All hail the holy RAW!) seems to indicate that single-spell staves are not allowed.

That's a stupid restriction, so it should be on the page of "autofixes" in everyone's house rules.

No, but you evidently feel different, so I changed the statement in question.
We're far afield from the thread topic, but I need this out there: I've found these message boards far and away better than other gaming boards. The fact that you've politely editted your original statement is evidence for my view.

Here you can find many posters with an excellent handle on the rules, and a good grasp of what makes for a reasonable stance in a discussion. Arguments that carry the day are ones that are based on well-crafted and mature posts, rather than ad hominem commentary. As I look around at the other boards (like WoTC -- shudder), I'm pretty happy with how ENWorld message boards work and the behavior of those of us that frequent it.

You find the ENWorld message boards to be a cesspool? This baffles me.

If enw is a cesspool, I'm rather curious what constitutes a good and decent forum.

Then again, the Rules forum tends to get a bit more heated than the other boards here.

The rules areas of the WotC boards I consider much less heated and polite than here. Part of this might be because I (objectively) try provide debate quelling, WotC references at every opportunity there (whether from RAW, the FAQ, RotG, etc.). This seems to have drastically reduced the flame-wars in the rules areas (as information and memes are passed from circle to circle).

When I have attempted such assistance here, I met mainly with staunch derision. This board has a meme that I cannot hope to put a dent in, and the debates here are far worse than on other boards (the most intractable posters here also appear to be the most firmly entrenched).

The problem with quoting the FAQ or ROTG in a discussion about rules is that both sources are demonstrably wrong on a lot of points. Add the fact that they're not authoritative sources, and I'm surprised you ever get anything BUT derision for the rulings contained therein.

Ah.

You are saying "When I quote ancillary articles from WotC, they are not treated with the same respect as when I quote them on the WotC boards."

That means the ENWorld Rules Forum is a cesspool?

Maybe it's more "amusing speculation"?

Seriously though, we are gonna derail this thread quickly if we (once again) start debating the merits of the FAQ etc.

Besides, whether a staff must be wooden or or not is a much more interesting conversation.

Actually, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the point is moot, as the feat "Create Staff" doesn't even let you research a 'new' Staff combination.

Create Staff

You can create any staff whose prerequisites you meet.

Compare that to wands..

SRD said:
Create Wand

You can create a wand of any 4th-level or lower spell that you know.

So, unless new Staffs come out in official sources, or you can convince your DM to add a new staff, there's no real rules for researching new Staffs other than what's in print.

I believe you completely misinterpreted my post. I find these boards to be a cesspool due to negativity and needless debate. When I said "Part of this might be because" I was presenting a possible root cause for such behavior, not why I find such long, intractable threads to be negative or needless.
