whether a staff must be wooden or or not is a much more interesting conversation.
I thought that was answered with:
"Most staffs are wood, but a rare few are bone, metal, or even glass" from RAW (i.e. just below "A staff is a long shaft of wood that stores several spells.")

An interesting conversation might be:
Do all staves have to be long and shafty?

the feat "Create Staff" doesn't even let you research a 'new' Staff combination.
Interestingly, that seems like one possible valid interpretation (even if it might be a minority) that doesn't seem to conflict with the recent "Ask Wizards" ruling.

Reading Cook's statement above in the face of staves (or "staffs," if you're too young to have received the Gygax-imprint from 1st ed)...

I use 'staffs' if I'm talking about more than one staff in 3E/3.5, and 'staves' if I'm talking about more than one staff in 1E :)

That said, I'm going to have to pull out my Moderator hat.

Despite Piratecat's warning, most of the posts since then have been about the nature of Rules Fora, posting habits, and the applicability of the FAQ, not about Staffs.

Thread closed; come back to the topic in a week or so, but leave it for now.
