Sage... Dragon... Advice... what?

I'm not sure what you mean by that... could you elucidate?

You're highlighting a word to point out a spelling mistake that I deliberately copied from the post I quoted, and calling it irony?

You know, maybe I should read prior posts more carefully... especially ones that are quoted for reference... This isn't the first time I've been stupid, though, and it won't be the last. Bwahahahaha!

One-Handed: A one-handed weapon can be used in either the primary hand or the off hand. Add the wielder?s Strength bonus to damage rolls for melee attacks with a one-handed weapon if it?s used in the primary hand, or 1/2 his or her Strength bonus if it?s used in the off hand. If a one-handed weapon is wielded with two hands during melee combat, add 1-1/2 times the character?s Strength bonus to damage rolls.
Well look at that, I'm stupid.

I read that section three times, in my local copy of the SRD, and didn't see this text. I thought one of us must be hallucinating. Then I went to the online SRD, and found several paragraphs that aren't on my disk. (My rtf is missing everything from the end of the light weapon paragraph, to just before the Weapon Qualities header.)

I must've quoted this at some point, and hit 'cut' instead of 'copy'. That's what I get for not setting the files read-only, I suppose.

My point about disarm is still valid, as far as I can tell, but you're clearly right about this bit. Now if you'll pardon me, I need to go slink under a rock and hide my shame from the world.

I've always thought an inability to be blear is one of my own biggest weaknesses.

Blear is something that causes the eyes to redden (from the same root as bleary, I think). You and the Sage have both demonstrated the ability to be blear in the past ... :P

Sure. He's using the Alanis Morissette version.

You know: Rain on your wedding day. Good advice that you just didn't take. That type of thing.

Leaving one lippitudinous! (One of my favourite words :D )

Hey, what's that supposed to mean!?

In her defense, I think at least one or two of the situations in her song were, in fact, genuinely ironic...

But most ironic of all is singing a song about irony when you don't really understand what it means.

He puts out a few pieces of advice in each issue of dragon. Those pieces of advice should be planned, checked and double checked to make sure they are in line with the rules. Do I expect them to be perfect? No. Do I expect them to be better than they have been? Yes.

There's a new column that's just started on the WotC site - Rules of the Game, by Skip Williams.

First instalment looks good. It looks like it will probably be covering the sorts of questions that are pretty clear in the book, but confuse a lot of people anyway; this instalment is looking at stacking bonuses, and we tend to see a lot of questions about that from new players.

If the standard stays good, it will be useful to be able to point people to the archive. (Gamestoppers was a great idea, but suffered a little from some inaccuracies.)

I'll let you look in the dictionary for the word majority, but as for how many bad rulings has he made? A LOT.
[/b]
I disagree. As I pointed out, his bad rulings are very tiny when compare to the number of good rulings he has made.

I 'm not going to even try counting them for you.
You should. You might be suprised. I doubt you could find 20 that are blatently wrong.

I think you are making the mistake of focusing on only his incorrect rulings, to the point where you forget everything he get's right. I think you are holding him to an higher standard than is warranted.

Part of why I'm writing this is because I've experienced the same thing myself. At one point my views on the rules were taken as gospel by a large minority of posters in the rules sections. Then my personal life got complicated (lost my fiance, lost my job, then series of new jobs were I couldn't post from, then became president of the local RPGA club, and lately have organizing and/or running local RPGA gaming conventions) and my posting frequency dropped, and my accuracy dropped when the 3.5 revision came out and I didn't have the time to proof everything the way I used to.

Reactions from some people ranged from a sort of spiteful glee to outright hostility. So much for having earned respect for service rendered. :p (And I admit I didn't handle it as well as I should have, partly due to the personal stress I was operating under) Part of the reason I dropped out of site for awhile, and still don't post as much as I used to.

I see much the same thing happening to the Sage for the last few years, and don't really think he deserves it.

Nowadays Hypersmurf is in much the same position I used to hold, and is doing a good job of it. I'm glad about that, it takes some of the pressure off, and there should always be a respected rules guru on the forum. But even he's not right all the time. ;)

Cal.........I still respect you :D and Hypersmurf too, since he is doing a great job in your stead.......There are times I have disagreed with both of you, but overall you are both quite good at knowing how to implement the rules. So good in fact people love to hop on any little thing you may get wrong.........Sage may be experiencing this as well, As you have said. I dont really have anything to add ...just saying I thought you did a great job and hypersmurf too .........and padding my postcount
