Sailors on the Starless Sea

Homer's examinations reveal a significant difference in height between the inside bottom of the chest and the outside bottom; space enough for a sizable secret compartment. His knocking does reveal a difference of sound though it is muffled as if the hollow is filled. Homer pushes on the sides and bottom looking for a sliding panel but finds nothing until he attempts to slide the lower back panel. There is a click and a section slides away but as soon as the panel has been moved Homer hears the whistle of a razor-sharp length of metal scything through the air towards his fingers.

[sblock=OOC]Homer: DC 15 Reflex save, please.[/sblock]

The scything blade cuts deep and two of Homer's fingers fall to the floor (and possibly Homer as well).

The compartment is open, however, and seems to be filled with cloth. Now that the trap has been sprung it should be safe to examine the contents further.

[sblock=OOC/Rolls]Yes, saves are with a d20.

Damage & Fingers: 1d4=4, 1d2=2; 4 damage & 2 fingers.
Ow, bad luck there! Also, your character sheet shows Homer's hp as 2+1d6. You need to roll that or edit to reflect that roll if you've already done it.[/sblock]

The scything blade cuts deep and two of Homer's fingers fall to the floor (and possibly Homer as well).

2 hp and eight fingers left. uh oh.

Narančasta grabs Homer by the scruff of the neck and hauls him away from the chest.

"Who did you think to find in there! You fool. Leave the poking around until we have found those who we came for, and brought justice to those who took them."

Siva steps up to Narančasta as he prepares to cut a length of cloth from his shirt with which to bind the wounds.

"Let me see that," she says quietly. Reaching down she takes Homer's hand and considers it closely for a moment.

"I've not done this before. It might hurt a little ..."

[sblock=OOC]Update Siva to Level 1 Cleric of Ildavir. She will try laying on hands and healing Homer.

[roll0] - Note to self: don't preview posts with a [roll] set in them. It kills the [roll]. Re-rolled. Got a 3 for a total of 6. A bit anti-climatic. Disapproval Rating now 2. Homer is still bleeding everywhere.

Assuming Homer is Lawful: 1-11 Failure, 12-13 (1 dice), 14-19 (2 dice), 20-21 (3 dice), 22+ (4 dice)

Narančasta will become a Warrior. Haven't got around to that yet. Its bedtime now.[/sblock]

[sblock=Scott]Damage was 4, not 5. Also...

Alignment is important. You need to choose an alignment for your characters.
[sblock=Law]Lawful characters believe fundamentally in unity and prioritize
the values of mankind: order, authority, loyalty, and
charity. They support organized institutions and “do what
is right.” They have a moral conscience that points them
toward the appropriate action. Fundamentally, lawful characters
choose the path of mankind over the path of supernatural
dominance. At higher levels, lawful characters find
themselves interacting with celestials, angels, demi-gods,
and powerful Lords of Law. In mundane life, there are
many shades of lawful behavior, and not all lawful characters
agree on the same course of action at any time; though
they invariably unite when mankind is threatened by outside
forces.[/sblock][sblock=Chaos]Chaotic characters believe fundamentally in entropy and
seek constantly to undermine or rule those around them.
They are willing to disrupt the natural order of things – including
established governments, guilds, and relationships
– if they see a material benefit in doing so. They are open to
agreements with supernatural powers, even if such agreements
risk the primacy of man by allowing strange beings
into the material plane. Fundamentally, chaotic characters
choose the path of greatest personal power and success
over any greater principle. At higher levels, chaotic characters
find themselves aligned with demons and devils, sinister
monsters, extraplanar creatures, and the supernatural
Chaos Lords. In mundane life, chaotic behavior covers a
wide spectrum of chicanery, subterfuge, aggression, and
power politics, and chaotic characters are always looking
for an advantage over their peers.[/sblock][sblock=Neutral]Neutral characters have not taken a stand between Law and
Chaos. Neutrality is the balance of nature, the timelessness
of eternity, and the nothingness of space. It can also reflect
the neutrality of those who came before Law and Chaos:
the Old Ones, the great Cthulhu, and the empty Void, and
the emptiness of the time before gods. Neutrality between
Law and Chaos can reflect a measured morality – balancing
costs and benefits, without strong principles one way or the
other. It can also reflect ambivalence or indifference. Fundamentally,
neutral characters make choices based not on
loyalty, values, or self-advantage, but by evaluating each
and every opportunity that comes along. At higher levels,
neutral characters find themselves aligned with elementals,
extraplanar un-dead, and astral and ethereal beings.[/sblock][/sblock]

Greed often drives men to exploit nature, taking from it beyond what it can sustain. No healing is forthcoming for the one whose profession is often synonymous with greed (though healing may not always be withheld, Siva feels). The items with the secret compartment remain unexamined.

[sblock=OOC]re:Borok. After the beast men were defeated Borok woke up and recovered enough to work up some armor and shields for the dwarves to use. He is with the party and ok, just silent until I feel the need to NPC him or FireintheDust posts.[/sblock]
