Sanctuary - it's based in New York City, right?

Helen Mangus's Sanctuary house is supposed to be in New York City (specifically Brooklyn Heights, right by the Bridge, on the East River), right? I don't ever think they've mentioned it, but they do mention other real world cities like Chicago and London.

The street scenes in the show never look or feel like New York, but the skyline (complete with the trashed Brooklyn Bridge) when they show the Sanctuary kind of looks like lower Manhattan.

It's like an alternate reality New York, right?

I've never seen Sanctuary, but I know it's filmed in Vancouver just like Stargate, Supernatural, Smallville, Fringe (season 2 and beyond), Psych, Battlestar Galactica and Caprica, V, and the upcoming Human Target and probably a bunch of other stuff that I forgot to include.

That's what I figured (and explains why the streets and outdoors scenes don't look anything like New York, at least the scenes that aren't CGI that is). B-)

Wait, you mean there are scenes that aren't CGI?

There's some stuff that's filmed outside on actual streets or on location. If it were all CGI, you'd think they could do a better job generating a New York City street that doesn't look like a Canadian city. :)

Of course, there's probably CGI elements added in every scene, even the stuff filmed on location, just because that's the nature of the show.

Yeah, I was making a bad joke. I actually enjoy the show, but the need to CGI everything except for "found sets" gives me a headache sometimes.

It was this past Friday's episode that got me thinking the same thing - it was a scene with Mangus and Wil walking down a hallway in the Sanctuary, and it just looked so fake (especially where their feet met the floor).

During the first season, the Cabal had a skyscraper office building that I *think* was supposed to be in the same city as the Sanctuary, but that skyline shot looked nothing like New York.

The show's weirdly addictive, but it really is all over the map (literally). It wants to be Steampunk/Highlander/X-Men/League of Extraordinary Gentleman/Marvel/DC/Beauty and the Beast/Blade/Underworld and the kitchen sink all at once. It's a little too busy. :)
