Satyrs as Characters

Under the Satyrs as Characters heading in both the [3.5] Monster Manual and in the SRD it says the following:

Racial Hit Dice: A satry beings with five levels of fey, which provide 5d8 Hit dice.

Fey have racial hit dice of d6? which is correct?

I'd say "d6". That's what the fey type gets, and that's what it's statblock says. Most likely the "as characters" bit was a cut-n-paste error.

The satyr is a fey and fey get d6, so the 5d8 is a mistake.
