D&D General Saurials and Common Sign Language

TravDoc42

I just think monsters are Neat! (he/him)
Saurials, those dinosaur folk from the Lost Vale in the Forgotten Realms, are one of my favourite concepts from that setting. I ADORE them, and I really hope they appear fully fleshed out in 5e someday (hope springs eternal!).

In the meantime, I ponder one of their most unique features: their lack of a spoken language. For those not familiar, saurials speak in a combo of subsonic rumbles and scent cues, making communication with other species difficult.

The 2024 Player's Handbook introduced "Common Sign Language" as a language, which was, to me, long overdue. It also provides a possible way to communicate with saurials! After all, WoTC has put NPCs who know that language in an adventure already!

What do you all think?

On one hand, they seem to have only 3 fingers and not sure you can sign that way.

Other hand, go for it.

3rd hand, can they cast spells like charm person since you need to speak? But MAGIC.

I have some hope that will be in the FRPG, they are one of the most distinctively FR species.

I mean, they still are "speaking" in a way. IIRC, it's a mix of scents and ultrasound, the latter of which is sound, still.
