[Savage Species]Half-ogre overpowered??

Well, doesn't that work out the same way. The reach weapon reach (bleh) increases by 5 feet for a large creature, and the natural reach increases by 5 also. 20 ft reach.

Normal reach = +5 feet. Scaled up a size, a long spear or spiked chain would be +10 feat. Then the natural reach of 10 ft adds to it for 20 feet.

No, it's not the same.

The weapon's reach PRESUPPOSES the wielder is large enough to use it. Since a Huge Longspear -cannot- be wielded by anyone smaller than Large, it's 15' reach is FOR size large.

If it worked your way, spiked chains coudl hit people 15' away -- 5' innate reach, and 10' weapon reach.

But not everyone who can use a Huge weapon has natural reach...

A centaur, for example, is size Large, but has only 5' reach.

How far can he reach with a Huge longspear?

A centaur with a greatsword has a 5' reach; an ogre with a greatsword has a 10' reach. If they both have Huge longspears, they both reach 15'?

I never said it made sense, I only said what the rule is.

Personally, while Centaurs are size large, they should wield weapons as if theyw ere size M (the size of their humanoid torso).

I also think "Reach" would be better expressed as a modifier, not a hard number -- be it creature OR weapon.

Check page 42 of Savage Species:

For each size increase of a reach weapon, increase it's reah by 5 feet.

So, 'reach' is now named property, IOW it doesn't stack. You use the greater of your natural reach or the reach from your weapon.
