Savage Tide AP not intriguing me

I loved the AoW adventure path which had me hooked from the first two adventures. Savage Tide just seems to... It fails to grab me or make me feel enthusiastic about it so far after reading the first two adventures. I am not sure what the reason is. Anyone else feel this way?

FYI- I think that Dungeon is the BEST suppliment out there for DnD.

I haven't read the adventures becasue I am playing in it. But it has been fun even if Reveal is about to totally TPK us.

I think it's a bit premature for me to pass judgement. I didn't start reading the Age of Worms AP until 6 or 7 adventures were available so I had a much better feel of the big picture at that point. I can't say the same thing for the STAP based solely on the one adventure I've read.

However, I've never been too keen on pirates or sea adventures. For that reason I'm a little hesitant about this one as it seems to be headed in that direction. I'll have to wait and see. the guys are Paizo are sure to surprise me. They always do.

I only read the first one, because I may run it.

It's ... different. It actually grabbed me just fine. I"m just not sure I want to run a full AP. We're going to be coming off the AoW here in a few months and I've been wanting to run Dark*Matter for a while.

The flavor of the first adventure and the city of Sasserine makes it seem like non-core classes would fit in well with the AP. For instance, I'd like to see Archivists instead of Clerics. Would do well with Swashbucklers and probably the asian-themed classes like Ninja and Shujenga.

Currently I'm thinking of doing the AP using a modified Grim Tales in a modified Eberron setting.

Currently, the others are interested in doing something involving steampunk tech and dirigibles.

Age of Worms was very "D&D Classic". Shackled City seemed ... Planescapey. This seems like it would go well with ninjas and pirates and dinosaurs.

*L* Awwww...Reveal would never do anything like that!

I've been studiously avoiding the PbP posts because I'm playing in one here as well. It's been fun so far!

I think you might be on to a very good point. My taste does run very "D&D classic" and the feel of Diamond Lake grabbed me from the begining and the AP was very "classic" in feel. Sasserine just did not grab me in the same manner and I agree that it might be a "feel" thing more than anything else.

Interesting. I thought the first installment of STAP was one of the best, most interesting aventures in Dungeon in a long time. It's actually grabbed me more than either of the prior APs did (and this coming from a man who owns the Shackled City hardcover and desperately wants to play through AoW).

Granted, I haven't read the second yet, but I have high hopes.

For some reason, I feel the same way. I still like Savage Tide, and I plan on running it because my gaming group wants to play in it. It just didn't make me as excited as AoW did. My opinion may change as more adventures come and the plot starts to unfold more.

Yeah, I love the Savage Tide. I'm running it in two days, and I haven't been so excited for a game day in MONTHS. So many of the scenes in the first adventure are just AWESOME - I don't want to go into details because there are players here, but they're pretty cool. While I do have some grievances with the first adventure, they're the minor sorts of quibbles that always pop up when you're running someone else's adventure, and were easily "Fixed" (good bye, Rhagodessa, hello firearms!)

The first few adventures of Shackled City bored me to tears, and when I read the final adventures, my eyes glazed over. Age of Worms was rejected the first time I saw it, if only because I'm a huge fan of the band Kyuss, and there was no way my group would let me get away with running a game centred around him. But Savage Tide has grabbed me since I first heard about it.

What's not to love? Pirates. Dinosaurs. Isle of Dread.

Oh baby, YEAH.

I thought that the First Installment of the Savage Tide was (aside from being very difficult) one of the best adventures I have read in some time. I know that a number of people didn't like the hook, but I thought that it was refreshing not having to have all of the characters come up with a story as to why they know each other and why they would be travelling together. I am running this adventure in more of a linked one-shot style having no remorse as to character death and am trying my best to have everyone enjoy it. I am spending a lot more time and money on prep work and little extras to make it memorable. We are playing these in a "marathon-session" style and we got a good way through the first module this weekend. (past the parrots).

The only downside that I have seen, and this has nothing at all to do with the module, is that we aren't interacting with npc's as much because we are trying to get through as much as possible in the session. I had initially been hoping to do one module a session, but, as I had feared I don't think that that is going to be possible for us....who knows though since a good portion of the first session was character creation.

Anyway, more on topic...I LOVE a number of the scenes...

Like storming the blue nixie.... With the slightly incompetent Vark as a villain. And then the pc's finding out more information about Vanthus and really starting to despise him. The pc's guessed all of the evil stuff that he did before confirming it.... robbing the family vault, burning his parents on their ship etc... Then when he locked them under the island. It was GREAT! One of the players had his character just sit down in a corner and start to say "we're all going to die" over and over. At this point I pulled up the spooky sounds and had them playing for the next hour or two well the pc's fought the zombies. (which they did in a really unfortunate manner....they split off and managed to aggro a new group each time that they had ALMOST finished with the last, this really kept the fight going for a bit to long but was fun at the same time. It was a good thing that they all pooled their money from vanderboren and bought a wand of cure light)
