any one played this. I have been invited to play in a conan game using this system instead of Mongoose's OGL system. I went to the website and downloaded the quick play rules, it looks kinda neat. Anyone have any experience with the system

I have limited experience with the system. I've bought the books and read through them. I've not played with my normal gaming group, though I have played a few convention games. One was a precursor of the Tour of Darkness campaign setting. We played members of a recon team in a 'Weird Vietnam' setting. The other was a sci-fi game where we were all crew members on a ship. I can't remember a lot of details about either game, but I do recall them both being fairly fun at the time; it looks like the system would work particularly well for parties composed of characters and a goodly number of NPCs. I could see it doing the WH40k world very well.

In any case, enjoy your Conan game. I think the system can handle that very well too.

It's a little too pulpy for my tastes, but does what it sets out to do fairly well. I should think it would hold up in a Conan game.

Simple to learn, fun to play. It's not tactical like 3E, so you can be alot more creative with it. I like it much more then D&D, and it can be used for every genre. Go for it, it sounds like a lot of fun.

I've played it a bit, and it's quite fun, especially for high-action duels and fights with lots of opponents. Its basic system is quite straightforward, and requires little or no bookkeeping. In some ways its considerably less tactical than D&D, in that it has no AOOs and doesn't require fine positioning of characters on a battlemap, but in other ways its just as tactical if not more so. If you play it like D&D (I hit him. He hits me. I hit him again, etc) it can be boring, but it has numerous combat options and maneuvers that allow for a lot of tactical creativity, especially in duel-like environments. It also works much better with lots of characters and NPCs than D&D, almost like a wargame with PCs.

Its main drawback for me is that its magic/powers system is extremely boring and restrictive. But there are alternates on the web that are much more flexible and interesting.

It's good generic system.

I have played it a couple times, once post apoc and once space opera. Both game were fun. But then I'm to picky unless the rules get in the way of the game.

It is a fine system. It works well and can play fast. It just doesn't do what it does any better or worse then many other systems for me so I gave it a try but eventually left it.

yeah, I haven't gone back to it yet either. While I had fun playing it, it didn't pull me and make me want to play/use it again.

I had a similar reaction. I only played the test drive, so my experience is limited, but I think it's a neat system that would work very well for a fast, pulpy, cinematic game (Conan would work great, IMO). On the other hand, it didn't grab me on the "feel" level, like some other fast/lite systems did (Lejendary Adventure and Castles & Crusades). I may be atypical, because I know a lot of people swear by Savage Worlds.

All that said, and my preferences laid out on the table, I'd still jump at the chance to play in a Savage Worlds Conan game.

I wouldn't turn down a game because it was going to use Savage Worlds, that's for sure. It gets the job done and doesn't get in the way of good Role-playing so I'll play it. I also agree that I think Conan is a good match for SW.
