For any interested in heirloom varieties, here's the site of a local company (Lane County, Oregon) that does such:

Territorial Seed Company

They've been doing this for decades; bunch o' hippies, if you (or "you-all") ask me.

Um. The name used to come from their location on Territorial Road; but they have since moved to the larger (ha, ha) Cottage Grove, OR (population 9,686). They moved there from Lorane, OR (population 389).

(That's not really a case of "moving to the big city," is it? But they actually were located on Territorial Road when they were in Lorane; that road runs right through Lorane, and was built before Oregon became a State, hence the name.)

You can usually find heritage 'maters at your local farmer's market too. Both as plant and food. My fave was Cherokee purple

Some shops near me sell heirloom tomatoes and other exotics, like blue corn. Every once in a while, I try them out.
