Saving throws are a coin toss?

I just wish the "duration determinant" actually had something to do with the relative power levels of the caster vs the target, rather than having a 55% chance of ending after the 1st round. I can tell you this much, barring extreme unluckiness on the part of the victim, negative effect durations are going to be very short indeed. So short, in fact, I doubt my Wizard will even bother with such spells.

That would suck butts.

The Archmage shouldn't have to keep concentrating just to keep your goblin baby sleeping soundly.

He should be able to wave a hand, send the thing to sleep for 100 years, and not have to think about it anymore, ever.

The End.

D00d, the nerd class got nerfed. Get over it already.

HAW HAW!

Honestly, most of this sounds like you want everything to be solvable soley by the wizard.

I know I do.

But I want everything solvable by the fighter, the rogue, the cleric, heck every class should be able to solve pretty much every problem. Some classes should be better suited to solving certain problems, but every class should have a solution.

You already have that; it's called murder (I believe you may have already mentioned this).

There's no reason to believe that 1st level wizards should be able to put alert guards to sleep with 100% (or any, for that matter) chance of success.

Given that we only know about 1st level pregenerated wizards, there's no point in speculating about anything else, such as what powers or feats you might have at levels 2-30 that will surely make this argument (discussion, if you like) irrelevant.

Hence, I, like many, speculate that your problem will be solved somehow, particularly as we haven't seen any rituals yet (have we?).

Speculate however you wish (but like us, you'll probably be wrong).

It's not specifically a nerd-class issue.
Less specifically, if this edition kills off the "magic is a license to print money" meme that has infested D&D for 30 years, I will be a very happy nerd geek kitty.
