SC2.0 conversions of d20M base classes

Crafty's website is back up. Bought the back-to-basics pdf. The price point 4.50 is great and the dialed down power level for d20 Modern flexibility is interesting. Cthuluesque game is now a little easier. Great product, good job Crafty.

Solkan - glad to hear BtB is working out for you. Guys like your reluctant player are exactly the people targetted by this piece :)

As a note, if mixing up with core Spycraft classes, these classes give up some power for some flexibility - there's no 'game-breaker' ability at 14th level for instance - and while some of the upper tier knacks are pretty hot, they're not at that level of power. I would be quite happy to mix up the classes in a game - but would be careful to make my players aware of that fact.

Yeah - it was interesting working with a new class ability scale where properly twinked characters could get to abilities equivalent to a base class's 10th level at 9th level, or even 8th in the case of shared knack trees. The game breakers are another roundly criticised element of the SC classes which brand them "over the top" so dropping them kept the basic classes' balance in line with regular base classes and lowered the overall bar at the same time. A smart player (and honestly, our core design assumption is every single player of Spycraft is a diabolical genius looking to shatter our game balance into a million tiny pieces ;)) will be able to make some very interesting builds that one would be hard pressed to make with the base classes.

I like that (very much IMHO) Spycraft has picked the most pointed out benefit of D20 Modern over Spycraft and solidly kicked D20 Modern's arse, producing classes that are more interesting (though blander than the Core classes - but that's kinda the point) more diverse and more mechanically sound.

*blush* aww...shucks. Thanks :) We're glad you're enjoying the product!
