Graf

I have neither the time nor the energy to respond to you in entirety. If you love SL that much, the more power to you and the setting. Just your enthusiasm for SL is a reason to consider switching to SL.

One point I'll respond to: You say that having the apocalypse a mere 150 years ago makes it easier to allow access to ancient secrets; that if the 'golden age' ended 1000+ years ago, the only way to allow PC's to run accross ancient secrets to 'suspend belief' by saying an earthquake occured that released some long-buried secret.

Suspend Belief? And how exactly do you play fantasy RPGs without suspending belief? A game where wizards cast disintegrate spells, arcane archers imbue arrows with magic, devils appear and slaughter people, dragons fly, breath fire, adn hoard treasure.

If you have figured out a way to get your players to play D&D as described above without suspending belief, please post how to do so.

Seriously, there are all sorts of great ways to have PCs find ancient mysteries, and I think they're interesting and facsinating. Discovering abandoned temples, or secret rooms (magically hidden) in old temples, find ruins in now-inhospitable regions (jungles, deserts, volcanoes), inter-planer means, etc. Ok, these are all standard cliches, but they work for me.

I certainly hope I'm not picking a fight....

Well maybe not but I'd prefer NOT to be confrontational about this particular issue my friend.

John,

Glad you enjoy the enthusiam from Graf. He's one of the good ones.

The Scarred Lands material I own, I love--I'm a big fan of flavor over crunch. Some of the posts in this thread, however, have made me think I must be missing a fair amount of cruch (and I'm hoping to run a SL campaign sometime soon). Where are the rules for Scarred Land player races, for example?

Good Question West!

At present, the SL Dm's Companion is the ONLY source for all the races, (with the exception of gnomes). However my understanding (and I'm reasonable sure about this mind you) is that the REVISED CC, will have an appendix dealing with the player character races.

I admit it, I'm bumping the thread. But at least I can this:

Beholders in the Scarred Lands are more than just gaseous bags of air! And Illithids might be fighting with Slacerians! :D

The racial stats are OGL & as follows. [These are the standard PC races... someone else can post Charduni, dark elves, etc.]

All favored class choices must be selected the first time a character takes a class in either.

The short squat guys:
+2 Con, -2 Cha
speed: 20 ft
Darkvision 60ft
Stonecutting (as standard PH, also +2 on Craft & appraise for stone & metal)
+2 save vs poison&disease & spells/spell-like effects.
+2 to melee attack roles if another allied short squat guy is within 5 ft.
+2 to handle animal (dwarf hounds only) and +4 vs the bark of dwarf hound (see CC)
Runic Heritage (as a sorc of level = to their hit dice) 2/day either detect magic or arcane mark
Favored Class: Fighter OR Wizard

The skinny nature types:
-2 Con, +2 Dex
speed: 30 ft
Low-light vision
Immunie to Sleep, etc.
+2 save vs enchantment
+2 to Craft (tattoo), Spot, Listen or Search
Secret Doors per PH
Proficent with Longspear, Shortspear OR (?) Quarterstaff.
Proficent with Shortbow, Longbow, Composite LB & SB.
Can use prof. weapons even if Druid due to strong cultural tie to land.
Favored Class: Druid OR Ranger

The skinny antx-ridden types:
-2 Con, -2 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Int
speed: 30 ft
Low-light vision
Immunie to Sleep, etc.
+2 save vs enchantment
Secret Doors per PH
Proficent with Longspear, Shortspear OR (?) Rapier.
Proficent with Shortbow, Longbow, Composite LB & SB.
Cursed. No babies, must be at least 150 yrs old.
Cursed no divine spells above 2nd level unless they reject their heritage and become outcastes in the service of another god.
They get +50% starting gold and 1 masterwork weapon OR 1 masterwork suit of armor.
Favored Class: Wizard OR Cleric (for the masogynistic, remember no spells above 2nd level unless you want to betray your people)

The ugly guys
(same as PH except)
+2 to Bluff, Sense Motive and Intimidate
Favored Class: Barbarian or Rogue

the really short guys
(same as PH, except)
+2 with thrown weapons (instead of +1, too short for heavy bows)
+2 on Bluff checks
-25% of starting gold from general poverty
Favored Class: still just Rogue

Well I guess since they are OGL, what the heck? ;)

Btw if you people are lost, I'll clarify Graf post slightly.

The "angst" ridden race are the forsaken elves.

The squat guys are the SL version of PHB dwarves, just called Mountain dwarves.

nature types are the SL version of elves, called Wood elves. (Love them female woodies! ;) )

Ugly guys, half orcs

short guys, Halfings.

Now on to the last three:

Charduni:
Same as mountain dwarf except as follows:
-2 Dex, +2 Con, +2 Wis -2 Cha
+1 racial bonus on savings throw against spells and spell-like effects
+2 racial bonus to Profession (mining) checks
Skin of rock: Charduni gain +1 to their natural armor every 40 year of life. Thus a 80 year old charduni gains +2 to their natural armor class. Charduni with natural armor class of +4 or better gain +1 to their ELC/CR.
Favored Class: Cleric or Fighter

Forsaken Dwarf:
Same as mountain dwarf except as follows:
+1 bonus to spells and spell-like effect
+1 bonus to Appraise checks related to stone or metal items
+1 bonus to Craft checks relating to stone or metal
+2 bonus to Intimidate checks
+2 bonus to Craft (trapmaking checks)
Favored Class: Fighter or Rogue

Btw, I also have the stats for most of the Slitheren broods in Doc file. Just in case some can't afford to get Warrens of the Ratmen JUST yet.

Fantastic, thanks Nightfall and Graf, this is just what I was looking for. I'm off to search for the DM screen tomorrow. I was wondering if Scarred Lands has its own take on any of the core classes (in the same way Iron Kingdoms does, for example).
