Ali smirks and just manages to keep his mouth shut as the Church Knights parade through. Listening to Manous insist on keeping booty, Ali finally opens his mouth, "Manous is just afraid that if he can't keep some of the booty, he'll have to beg for food."

"*Harumpf!* Nay, not so, Ali. I am more concerned about the rest of you finding your next meal than myself. I could always find sustenance at a suitable church. But I still believe that we are entitled to just compensation for the work that we did. We performed a Good Act, and it is Lawful for us to be rightfully compensated. That's my story and I'm sticking to it."

The old man, still seemingly asleep, coments in his reedy voice. Keep it, but put out word. Dishonest ones vill claim it, honest ones vill have proof. Their burden. Not ours.

Grinning at the paladin, Ali retorts, "Like I said, you might have to otherwise start begging at a suitable church."

Turning to Thayoon, Ali changes the subject, "The waitress, and, our horses! Both need fetching."

Ali walks out front to look around.

"Odds are that whoever owned this booty is dead by now," Tabitha points out. "Orc marauders aren't known for granting mercy to their victims. Come on though, we can quibble over the specifics later. Lets get our horses and ride on! There's still daylight left."

She heads for the front door of the inn as well, following Ali's footsteps.

Turning to the Master of the House, Manous says, "Sorry about the mess!" and quickly follows Tabitha and Ali before they can suggest that the Paladin pay for any damages.

Balthazar give orders to his men. The Church Knights begin to drag the bodies outside and construct a pyre from firewood neatly ricked up out back.

The under officer moves close to the Commander and gives a brief report in hushed tones.
OOC: Any outside who try to overhear may roll a DC21 perception check.

Soon the horses are brought up and the waitress is effusive in her praise for your saving the roadhouse and it's occupants. Balthazar looks as if he might retch. Then a cruel smile forms on his lips.

"I see your horse are all freshly branded. Perhaps covering another's brand to conceal a theft? I think we should take custody of these beasts until their proper ownership can be verified."

Ali stands watching the horses ride up. The sounds of the hooves on the road cover the conversation, so that Ali cannot hear it.

"In this case, you and your man should take hurry... I think I saw a couple of cows with new branding on a field some miles ago... perhaps you should investigate this, too. Maybe a danger for the church you have to investigate."
Malkyr says with a frown.

The oblivious Manous has finally figured out that something is going on concerning the ownership of the horses. "Ownership of our horses is easily established by the records kept back at the farm. Shall we produce such irrefutable proof, or will the Commander take our word for it? Hmm, I suspected as much. To the farm then!"
