Scourge Of Worlds DVD Demo

Chaz

First Post
In case anyone is interested, I just got a free demo DVD of "Scourge Of Worlds" bundled with wizards magazine. Its only a short demo but gives you an idea of what its like. Looks interesting.

For those who dont know what it is.. its an interactive 3D-CGI D&D based movie adventure in the 'choose your path' theme.
The add for it says: you control the adventure - with over 20 decision points / 4 alternate outcomes & more than 900 unique story combinations.

Anyway just thought I would mention the demo DVD for what its worth.

Peace.

I think this is being released on the 10th. Just a short followup question:

Is anyone planning on picking this title up?

Strangely enough I thought it was a fun diversion based on the Demo DVD. I think I'll be picking it up.

The animation is TV CGI production quality, but the mocap is not bad.. the only problems I had were the boring backgrounds and Lidda's animation.. she has some serious neck problems.

Then again I'm an Animation Major so I realize you have to keep a production on track and in budget.

The writing is decent and the voice acting is fair to good depending on the character. I really like the personalities they give the three Iconics. (Mialee, Lidda and Regdar)

I just got through trying to play it. I have no idea if I'm doing anything wrong or if the partial storyline just ends there for the demo but after they fight the druids and I try to choose 'Follow whatshisname', it goes back to the beginning. As in, I don't actually get to choose that, but just touching the choice wheel on my remote puts me back to the start screen. I would have at least assumed that if I'd reached the end of the demo it would tell me so.

I found the animation acceptable for low level TV work; there are a lot of problems with bending, arm positioning, and affecting the environment but that last I know is terribly, terribly expensive to do. The facial expressions were OK, and the magic effects OK.

I really, really don't like having FF prohibited. If I want to start and choose a different path, I have to watch the entire DVD again!? That's a deal breaker, there. I was all hyped to buy it, but thank God for the demo. Now I won't be wasting my money on it.

Minor trivia point: Regdar is, IIRC, not one of the actual Iconic characters. Look back through the Player's Handbook and Enemies & Allies, he isn't in either. Tordek the dwarf if the one showcasing the Fighter class. I asked someone from WotC about this at GenCon, but sadly, I can't recall his answer. :(

Regdar has only received official stats once, that I've seen: in the The Savage Caves Iconic review.

Minor other trivia point, all of the T.H. Lain books have received an Iconic review on the WotC website, except for City of Fire, the fourth book in the series. I wonder why that one got excluded?

Better check again. :)

Regdar is in Enemies & Allies. He was also statted in the D&D Adventure Game boxed set, and his stats appear on the character sheet at the end of the second printing PHB.

Though I have it on good authority that Tordek is in fact the iconic fighter of choice.

Dwarves got the shaft in the DVD! :p

Ah, my mistake...he wasn't in the PHB, but then was added in to Enemies & Allies for some reason later.

It still stands that he wasn't/isn't one of the original Iconics though. Anyone know the full story behind that?
