Scrying on Friends

This question came up in our last session:

Since the success of the 3.5 Scry spell is based off of the targets Wil save can a friendly target voluntarily fail the save and thus allow the party to always successfully Scry her?

This begs to question does a player have to know something is being cast on her to voluntarily fail her saves? Does she have to know who is casting it? Does it effect just that one spell or any other spells cast in that round etc.?

A friendly target can voluntarily fail the save. As for "always"...

Pretty much. You always know that something was cast at you if you succeed at a save. But you don't know before the save is made. So unless they use Sending first to say "I'm about to Scry - don't resist, okay?", you'd have no reason to decide to "stop resisting"...

What Hypersmurf said. This happened in my campaign a couple sessions ago, when an ally of the PCs wanted to scry them. The first thing he did was use a sending to let them know that's what he would be doing an hour later. They have a couple of enemies with the ability to scry, so without that warning they would have got a Will save to resist.

If you can't afford a sending, try to scry the friend with the lousy Will save. Good reason to always have a barbarian in the party :)

Yeah, they warned me that sort of thing can happen.
