Sealed Pages in Dragon--Contents inside!

Ok; seems like we both really talked about different topics than each other. :p

Anyway: Rock on; you are on to something here! :)

Y'know, I'm all cool with you thinking what y'want, but do you really have to jump out and say BDSM's 'Disgusting'? I mean, y'know, some people here may Like it.

And, although, I can agree that some aspects of S&M are out there and are not for me, I don't have to wave the 'EW GET IT AWAY' flag.

Thank you!

Speaking as someone who's VERY into BDSM stuff, I have to say that calling it 'disgusting' is like calling gays 'disgusting'. Different strokes for different folks; don't condemn what you don't understand and prolly haven't tried.

Anyway. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

I want the new Dragon, personally, cuz the sealed section stuff sounds interesting. It _touches on_ the taboo without going too far (imho, which- obviously- others don't all agree with). It sounds like it doesn't go as far as my campaigns have in the past (and prolly will in the future).

I don't honestly think anyone should be too offended by it until they see it for themselves. If people are going to condemn it without looking at it, isn't that a lot like what the Jack Chicks of the world do? I mean, c'mon; does anyone think he's ever read the PH, any edition?

But, like someone else said (Unseelie, I think), VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET. If you oppose wotc going this route, don't buy it. No sales? Failed experiment, we won't do it again!

It's that simple.

Obviously missed my point entirely. I was pointing out that, despite my negative opinion on it (I could give you a -lecture-, thanks to a former 'friend' getting way too interested in it), I don't run around saying "Nooo! Kill it!" Sure, I'd be -very- happy if the whole thing ceased to exist (I don't care about silly things like spanking and handcuffs, its when people make it into a -lifestyle- that it goes too far. All things in moderation.), because I see it as one of the easiest ways to cause yourself and others severe emotional damage-- It's comparable to a drug.

My point, again, was that a handful of people are acting like this towards the Tome of Vile Darkness, which is just silly, especially since they don't have it in front of them to properly criticize.

Let's stay at least -somewhat- on topic.

Personally I don't like some of the things that are supposedly in the manual and the magazine, but I'm not going to gripe at Wizards to stop publishing things like that. The USA is a capitolist country and if they can make an honest buck, more power to them. Obviously I'm not going to be buying either the book or magazine, but I don't think it's my place to tell them to stop.

I wasn't one of the people that said that, but really, if someone finds anything disgusting, whether it is liked by someone else or not, an opinion is an opinion, and especially if the activity is something exercised by the minority of people, lump it. Sorry, that is life. Condemn what you will, that is one of the gifts of free will. Outright offending people here is not right, but if someone says your private practices are disgusting to them, that is something that a person needs to accept.

The saddest part of this is that someone found offense in this book, and instead of being a supportive rpg community, the fangs and claws came out. People mention the First Amendment when trying to silence someone. Hey, from what I have seen in the Dragon, I am not into the book and feel that it is a poor subject matter, and I am voting with my wallet. Does the idea of the book gross me out? No, I have seen things in this world firsthand that are very harsh and disturbing, this book cannot Cook (ok, pun intended) up anything that could 'freak me out'.

My concern is that this is the material that those who are opposed to our hobby have been waiting for. And if the naysayers are right, I am genuinely glad, but never underestimate the power of determination. One person can make more difference than one may think. And obviously, by the sheer level of rancor in this thread, we are not even united and truly supportive of each other, and I am not sure if this is fueled by a need to justify one's own actions, or just a need to rebel against 'the norm', or yet another reason. You can pretend that people out there aren't powerful enough to destroy our hobby all you want, but that doesn't mean that there aren't people out there working on it and giving it their best shot.

Right.

From now on, stay on topic, everyone.

(And for the record: I don't consider BDSM "disgusting.")
