it is a shame you can't get someone to add returning to the spear for you. and then you could take the throw anything feat next level.

Ok if we are going to get munchkinesk, then i must add my favorite moment of all, it was not a tale of dropping a foe quicker than you can say, but a heart felt tale of a Dwarven Guttbuster in my FR camp.

The Ogre character decided it want too use a catapult on a adult black dragon, now mind you the party was about 9th level each....so he looks around and cant find any thing too shoot.....well before he knows it, he sees the guttbuster jump in the basket and say fire.......well the ogre not being that smart or nice fires, misses, the guttbuster crashes into the ceiling of a cavern they where in at the time.....dies instantly as he hit the small pool below.....everyone was in dis-array...until they did not realize that the invisible pixie rogue had a wand that had 1 charge of ressurection on it and she flits over and taps him, next round h stands up........shocking the party, and then on his next turn runs over to do it again......then finally hitting it and killing it.

good times, i have never been so pleased with a death of one of my dragons.

I've had the Hone from Oathbound suggested to me, anyone got any experience with that?

In one round, the guy took down a 130 hp melee brute with two hits. Didn't even break a sweat.

Actually, for sheer munchkiness - the very first blow of Tallarn's new Fighter-10 PC was a Spirited Charge with the Black Spear vs an enemy Fighter-12. The Ftr-12 had had the bad luck to be hit and stunned(!) by the Monk earlier in the round, and his hp were down from 102 to a mere 95. The Spirited Charge hit for exactly 50 points damage - Fortitude save DC 15 vs massive damage - the guy had Fort + 11 and I rolled a '3', so he was killed instantly.

I can't give any suggestions regarding where to look for a fighting style, but hows about this:

You said the spear seems to "encourage" your character to desire power and tend toward the evil side of things. This suggests to me that maybe it's intelligent, or cursed. If so, I don't think it would be out of line to think that maybe the spear is beginning to impose its will upon your character, thus changing his fighting style while he uses the weapon. Think of it this way: if he was never a spear-using kind of guy, he suddenly gets hold of this spear and seems extremely proficient with it. Or, if he was a spear-using fighter before he found it, maybe it alters his style a little to suit its own needs?

It's definitely intelligent - 'cursed' is in the eye of the beholder, but its wielders rarely live long, other than perhaps the rightful wielder, the Lady of Hawk's Palace.

Yes, as noted, I'm well aware that it's intelligent and evil.

I think we've settled on the Oraskh style from Quintessential Fighter, although with a change for the final step. Instead of getting the ability to Whirlwind Attack everyone within 10', I'm going to get the ability to take a 5' step during Cleaves.

Well, you have to be lawful, so that's a starting point. I had one of them in my game and they're extremely nasty. Basically, their class features all involve bonuses to attack and damage rolls of one kind or another.

If you're looking to devise a fighting system for your character centered around a spear (is it a long spear or a short spear, anyway), the best thing to do is take feats that sort of go along with it, or start multiclassing into appropriate classes.

You've already got power attack, so that's good. Combat Reflexes might be fun, as might Improved Trip. In combination, the pair are potentially nasty in the extreme. And while you're at it, go for Knockdown.

If you don't have any levels in it already, you might want to consider picking up a level of Barbarian. Not necessarily because your character is going to get feral, stop bathing, and wear a loincloth, but because the spear is encouraging him to tap into inner reserves of anger. Nothing says "lots of offense" like the Barbarian's improved land speed and Rage abilties, and then you can get things like Damage Reduction and all the fun Rage feats.
