Seasons Eatings

As some of us gear up for the holidays, we start to think about all the wonderful food that we will be surrounded by. I for one am looking forward to my mothers famous chocolate chip cookies and my sisters renowned brownies. Of course, we alll should eat in moderation. I for one, need to. If you are interested, there is a great article here on planning the 'perfect' holiday meal. Anyway, what iss your favorite holiday food?
In order to conform to strict American holiday dietary law, one must have turkey and/or ham for one meal on the approved federal holidays. But it's not truly a holiday for me without a pork dish of Filipino cuisine ... where I eat in front of a hogtied vegetarian/vegan. :]

Pork adobo? Mmmm.

One thing I love is the green bean casserole. For some reason we only ever had it during the holidays, until about 2 years ago when I realized that and now on occasion it gets made outside of Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Pork adobo. Pork Guisante (aka pork and peas). Dinuguan (a Klingon dish; targ meat simmered in its own blood sauce).

Hope I catch a veggie before Christmas. Wish me a happy hunting ... or kidnapping. :]

MMMMmmmm, it is all good. I've pretty much gotten all of the holiday feastin done. My wife and I were back in the states with family for Thanksgiving and made the most of it (I think we had 3 seperate Thanksgiving meals). I'd be hard pressed to come up with a favorite but I do so love smoked ham and turkey and pie and...... Maybe it's best that I'm back in Japan ;) .

So you can loudly slurp up a humongous bowl of ramen? You know how many hungry refugees in Darfur you can feed on a typical Japanese ramen bowl?

:p

Hehe, true. Those things are huge. But pretty much everything else (at least in Okinawa) is in much smaller portions than folks from the States are used to.

Of course. It's to make room in your stomach for the heaping serving of ramen. :p

Also, they make the portion bite-sized because the food needs to be consumed in one bite.

Now, if I can talk to this Emily Post into convincing her that slurping is not a disgusting sound nor bad etiquette. Damn Americanos and their so-called "Civilized" Puritannical ways.
