"Well that beats my plan" Grryth mutters to himself as he gets his rope out of his pack and ties a weight to one end. He then swings the rope overhead a few times and tosses it towards Riel.

[sblock=Mechanics]
Athletics check to throw rope over to Riel who easily got himself to the other side of the chasm....:1d20+12 (Athletics)=30 - Ha, Grryth could have cleared the chasm after all....

[sblock=teleportation trickery]Well, it doesn't matter anymore, but there was a much more rules-abusive way of handling this. When you teleport, all your gear comes with you. If Riel were to teleport with a length of his rope coiled around his arm, it would remain coiled around his arm when he arrived at his destination. So what we could have done is lay the rope out flat on the ground, perpendicular to the gap. Then Riel grabs the end close to the chasm and teleports across. He'll be at the other side, holding 50 ft of rope which is now spanning the gap, since it came with him when he ported.

...

Maybe a visual would help. Here's the chasm. The numbers are so you can see the spacing.
Code:
12345678|1234|
        |    |
        |    |
        |    |
Here's Riel with 35 ft of rope:
Code:
12345678|1234|
        |    |
~~~~~~~R|    |
        |    |
And after the teleport:
Code:
 12345678|1234|
         |    |
        ~~~~~~~R
         |    |
Tada! A questionably legal way to get across chasms without needing to bother with Athletics checks.[/sblock]

[sblock=Warp in the flux capacitor] HT: Garrick has already gone in round 2. Although the scene has changed, you're still in a Skill Challenge and can only act once per round. Grryth was the last that was needed for Round 2.

I'm going to let it slide this time, and just take Garrick's actions as the first action of round 3 so that we can move forward.

With the quick thinking of both Grryth and Garrick, the team was well on their way toward crossing the chasm. Now all that was needed was for the others to get across!

[sblock=Skill Challenge: Part 2!]

[sblock=Part 1; Round 2]

- Riel: Arcana 31! (Success)

- Garrick: Arcana 16 (Canceled Fail). (Garrick loses a healing surge, but this fail does not count toward a failure in this round due to Garricks' actions in the previous round.)

- Gurdan: Endurance 29 (Success)

- Lo-Kag: Athletics 23 (Success) (This grants the group their 4th success, which moves the skill challenge into part 2!)
[/sblock]

[sblock=Part 2; Round 2]

- Alexia: Perception 23 (Success) (No more successes can be gained by using perception in Part 2 of this skill challenge)

- Grryth: Athletics 30 (Success)
[/sblock]

---- Part 2; Round 3 ----

- Garrick: Uses Otherwind Stride, teleporting over the chasm and earning an automatic (Success)!

Successes: 7/12
Failures: 1/3

Lo-kag shouts across the gaping hole to the others making sure that the rope is secure. Given the ok, he turns to the others. "Who's up?" Do any of you need any assistance?" Lo-Kag grins his toothy smile at Alexia. "No?..." Lo-Kag shakes his head. "Ok guys!...I'm coming across!"

ooc: athletics check with using the rope to get across: 1d20+10=20

Lo-kag moves across the rope bridge with ease.

[sblock=ooc] Well...that part certainly didn't go as I planned, lol. I expected you guys to use the bridge that Alexia found on the other side... oh well :) With Lo-Kag's Athletics check, you have earned 8 successes. In a little while, I will post another update and move on to part 3! Feel free to RP a bit while I get ready for part 3 of the skill challenge. [/sblock]

After getting everyone across the chasm, the heroes make their way down a steep slope. Soon they find themselves in a crystal cavern. The moss walls glow with phosphorescent light that is reflected a million times by the field of many faceted crystal stalactites and stalagmites. These tall structures bunch up in long rows and groups, creating a sort of labyrinthine maze. Echoing somewhere in the cavern, you can hear Gurdis struggling against her captor.

Alexia closes her eyes and smiles, "Echoes? I have just the thing." There is the sound of something scrambling over metal and cloth, and suddenly there is a small bat perched on Alexia's shoulder. It darts its head from side to side for a few moments before holding it steady in one direction. With eyes still closed, Alexia begins to walk down the indicated passage.

ooc: Perception 22.

Following the directions of her familiar, Alexia leads the group between two of the many rows of crystal walls. The path ziggs and zags for what seems like a mile before you come upon a small circular clearing. In the center of the clearing is a delicately shaped crystal structure on top of a pedestal. With each step you take, you can see the tuning fork shaped structure reverberating and amplifying the sounds you make. It then sends the these sounds out through the four holes in the base of the pedestal. One of these holes points directly at the path that the heroes has just traveled through and the other three point toward similar paths. It seems that whenever this tuning fork picks up a sound, it sends it down all four paths.

[sblock=Skill Challenge: Part 3]

- Alexia: Perception 22 (Success)

Successes: 9/12
Failures: 1/3

[sblock=ooc]Is anyone good at Stealth or Thievery? They could try disabling the crystal so we don't announce our approach to the kidnappers. Just a thought.[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=ooc]
I was thinking about using stealth to sneak up and perhaps try and stuff our bedrolls into the holes in the pedestal, but I was not sure that it would work. Last thing I want to do is earn another failure.
