Secret Police Classes?

Has anyone developed a class for a fantasy version of a secret police organisation? I am thinking something like the KGB or Gestapo but a la 1650s.

You might want to check out "The Land Across," by Gene Wolfe, published last year. It deals a lot with the secret police in a dictatorship of a land where magic exists. Aside from the magic, it's set someplace in the Balkans in the modern world. Th twist is that the secret police are the good guys. They're certainly not the nice guys, but they are fighting some really evil opposition. Besides being good source material, it's probably my favorite book by Wolfe.

In my Warhammer games Witch Hunters, which had the power of church and state to find the forces of chaos and remove them.

In a 3.5 game I would look at an Investigator Class.

Maybe the inquisitor from Pathfinder? It's not 3.5 but it is pretty close. It has the right theme, and the divine spells could come from a force, philosophy, cult of personality, etc rather than a deity? Just an idea.

You don't actually need new classes. Rogues will cover most of what you need.

The second t hing is no character can do all the work of secret police. They have specialists. While most members might be rogues (eg surveillance experts, lockpickers, assassins, etc) some members will be fighters (probably those who actually arrest people) and spellcasters for the fantasy aspects. There would probably also be experts working as analysts who never go into the field, but those won't be PCs.

Rogues or Fighter/Rogues with the right skill selection could easily fit this.

If you're looking for a published class, Grey Guard, Shadowbane Inquisitor and Shadowbane Stalker could fit the bill.

I like the idea of an Investigator with some stealth and extra intimidation abilities. Someone covert who can be good at forcibly extracting information...

Oh man, like Rorschach? I've wanted to make that for D&D as well. I've always wanted to run, like, an urban noir or vigilante game.
