Seeking Advice on getting into IT

Well, right now, I'm facing being unemployed for almost a year after graduation from college and suffering a bit in my quest to actually make use of my degree [Bachelor of Science/ major: Computer Science minor:Math]. Locally, I can't really seem to even get an incidental job to even get job/work experience.

I'm really just curious as to any advice folks can give to help one get into an IT job, and just to help make my resume more attractive.

As it is, I have trouble getting my resume to fill a page, let alone be able to 'customize' it with specific references appropiate to a given company :(.

When I got my first IT job, I didn't have much to put on my CV, so I went into a lot of detail about what I had learned in my degree - C++, SQL and the like. I think the interviewer really liked the section on my final year project - it was relevant to the job and I went into a lot of detail on what I had learnt (about 1/3 an A4 page.)

I can wish you luck, and hope I accumulate some good Karma for the internships I'm applying for next year (Apple, Microsoft, 3M). Just how bad is the IT field?
