D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

Solasta had a relatively rigorous implementation of the 5E light rules, and you quickly become aware of how important it is to have a good light source. Through that almost always meant having a couple of folks with access to the light cantrip, not carrying a torch or lantern. Still, once you hit 5th level, daylight was really worth the spell slot: especially if there were light-sensitive undead or lizards about.
The Solasta team deliberately tried to make light of tactical significance by adding more light sensitive creatures. They ended up toning it down a little. They discussed it in a developers blog.

I enjoyed it a lot. In particular the first fight against Soraks in the cave, when you start off getting murdered and then finally figure out what a difference it makes just to light a few torches. And then the first vampire boss fight is a doozy as well - hope you’ve memorized Daylight!
