Sell me on a setting

Wow, look at all the stupid fanboys, he asks about Ghostwalk and the Unapproachable East, and you lot can't stop foaming at the mouth long enough to read his post.

Ghostwalk vaguely reminds me of that 2nd edition Ravenloft box, was it Requiem or Grim Harvest? The one where the apparent goal of the set was to kill off the party and raise them as undead, so you could become a zombie fighter or a skeletal thief or a wraith mage. That seemed cool to me, Ghostwalk leaves me kind of cold: it's a setting where ghosts are solid and walk around like they're not even dead. Only they might get new powers for being dead. Eh.

Unfortunately, I know even less about the Unapproachable East, being disinterested in FR material of all types, so I can't say much about that.

So do you actually have something to add to the conversation? All I see is you attacking other people for recommending published settings while you appear to be offering no alternatives yourself. This is interesting considering that Joshua Dyle specifically asked for thist ype of feedback.

But then I'm sure you're way cooler than the "fanboys" here, sp why bother to contribute in any meaningful way. Your smug sense of superiority is far more valuable to you than any form of satisfaction you might get from helping people who ask for it.

The UE is a great book, IMO. I don't really get much of an eastern flavor from it though. The true East seems very far away...

I passed on Ghostwalk so far - the premise is just not for me. Plus the less than enthusiastic response to it's release here on ENWorld was another big deterrent.

Of course you can't go wrong with Midnight. Or Oathbound. Or Midnight.

Ghostwalk will make you more attractive to women, live longer, and be successful in everything you accomplish.

Plut its pretty cool as far as different settings go.

;)

Yeah, I heard about these two dudes that were walking through a forest and they came across a poolhouse where there were beutiful women swimming and playing ghostwalk while wearing bikinis. They told me that Van Halen seemed to be playing in background, but they never saw any speakers.

GW does not get me going. I have looked at it and it seems kinda interesting. I guess I would play it but not DM DM it.

UE is really good. It really conveys that the east of the FR is not very much like the west. Things are very different there. Great product.

I could suggest that you could make your campaign world a combo of Greyhawk and FR. FR is the west and GH is the east. Both are separated by mountains and deserts and seas that are an adventure to cross...

For simplicity I would go with FR.

Heck, does anyone even have Ghostwalk? I know one guy in our group does, but he's currently out of town until September, so I can't flip through his book. I did get a quick flip-through at Borders today, though -- at least I can say the art's good! ;)

Oh, and thanks for the links, Bloodstone. I'd seen some of those, but not all.
