Selling D&D stuff on Ebay

A friend of mine recently did pretty good on Ebay. Rather than one mega-auction he split his stuff up into related lots. IIRC, he had a Raveloft lot, Birthright lot, planescape, etc. As well as others, like all 6 adventure path modules. Got enough cash to move back to Illinois and will be back in my group soon (yay!)

Joe,

Ebay is certainly the way to go. Use the forum here to pimp your auction. Also post notes in the appropriate forum over at RPGnet.

Smaller lots usually will yield the best money. Exceptions include collections as others have mentioned above.

Some how I am saddened by your decision to leave the states even though I have not met you. I suppose I just hope you remain an active part of ENWorld! I tried to get on ENWorld twice when I was in China, but failed. (Naturally, that could have something to do with governmental filters, I don't know.) Good luck with the selling and your move.

It looks like I'll be getting rid of my rpg collection and I was thinking about selling it via ebay.

However, I haven't used ebay before and I went to register they asked me for a checking account number. That makes me uncomfortable.

Any of you out there have anything negative to say about selling via ebay? I'm thinking about setting up a dummy checking account and closing it once I'm done selling.

As an alternative, how have people's sales through the ENworld forum gone? I could always do it that way, I supose.

I sold many rpg stuff on ebay, and also bought a couple of things. I never had any problem. In fact registry exists to insure fair deals, as users rate those with whom they sell/buy. IMO, it's close as perfectly safe (but there still could be bad surprise anyway).

My advice: be honest about what you sell (even bad condition stuff can sell well!), and put photos and precise - detailed description of your stuff in order to sell well.

My experience with ebay has been an excellent one! I pratically sold everything I wanted to.

I just counted and I've got just under 400 D&D, AD&D, and 3e books, along with over 20 boxed sets. I'll probably go with the smaller lots.

Well still hang out around here, be that via a home internet connection or a internet cafe. We'll just be closer to hong. :D

Cleaning out our stuff. We decided today to move to India either at the end of this year or in the beginning of next year.

Best.

Ever.

The only problem I had was neglecting to update my contact information so I was selling stuff and giving out my old e-mail, phone number, and address. Needless to say, the buyers were ticked. You won't have any problems.

Yes, but have you considered the fact that it also means that hong is closer to YOU? :)

We went there in 2002 and spent 5 weeks. Divine madness best expresses India to us. It seems like at any moment everything's going to come crashing down, but were that to happen there'd just be twenty smiling guys laughing about it and then they'd jury-rig it back together. And when you think that this has been going on for thousands of years....

I think before your sale you should bring your stuff up to HPB on NW Highway and let me cherry pick it.

That's where all of it will be going if we don't do the ebay way. Maybe I should just put up a big list here on ENWorld and offer it to the first person to pays me 1/2 the MSRP of the item?

Heh. Maybe he'll be nice enough to let us know some cool places to go to if we ever drop down to the land down under. We'll have to leave every 6 months (oh trial! :)) and go to another exotic location such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, China, or Indonesia. We'll probably have a friend finishing up his Doctorate in Anthropology in a small fishing village in Indonesia, so we may be able to spend a week or two there. If not, Bali.

Maybe I'll do the 1/2 price sale here at ENworld and give %10 to Morrus and the site. That sounds pretty cool.

Wow.

Looking to nip that outsourcing trend in the bud?

Does this mean I might actually call for technical support and speak to a native English speaker? ;)

My parents met, married, and had their first child in India (mom worked at the British consulate; Dad was in the US Navy). Course that was 40 years ago, but they have nothing but good memories of their time there. Growing up, our house was full of brass artwork, including a hermaphroditic fertility statue (seven kids, so I guess it works!)

Dad's game trophies have long since rotted away, but I remember sneaking down to the basement to touch the twisted springbok horns, until their dark eyes creeped me out (which didn't take long). Dad never got his tiger, though.

Can you tell I'm a little jealous? Have fun and good luck!

That would be cool. I'd gladly fill in the holes in my collection that way. (Got the first two Witchfire modules? If they're in good condition, I'd pay more than half price for 'em.)

Joe, it sounds like you're going to have a wonderful time. But if I had my druthers, I'd like you and Suzi to move closer to me, so we could game together and just hang out. You two are good people.
