Server switched back to PATH OF ASCENSION

I think the overall concensus here is that PoA is a good standby while the bugginess of Chainmail is worked out. We are all very interested in seeing a stable, fair, and fun version of Chainmail in the future. I think that once some of the major stability issues are addressed (which I think may be due to the sheer size of the mod) and the spawning problems are rectified, Chainmail will be the module of choice. I for one enjoyed what I was able to see of it, all problems aside, but I also found myself getting VERY frustrated when those problems came to the forefront.

I would like to say thank you to Morrus for making the mod available for testing and for listening to us when he doesn't really have to. :D

Well im going to make the best of it. I took and removed gear from my lower level chars in POA so that if/when we start up CHAINMAIL again I will be able to play my lower lev chars once more.

My char Chazman was instantly zipped away to encumbria on entering POA due to all the gems and other items(90+ over the limit) needed for CHAINMAIL. I do wish I could get a reasonable price for the jade teeth I have... the encumbria witch will only give me chump change for them. But im not selling off items I want to keep for CHAINMAIL so im stuck.

If anyone wants to buy jade teeth from me for a more fair price let me know... you will have to meet me in encumbria(get a bunch of quartz crystals or something).

I will keep checking back. Hope to play CHAINMAIL again soon. Even at its worst, CHAINMAIL is superior to POA.

Peace

i did the same Chaz :) all my PoA characters now have thier gear in the packs unequipped... when I leave the server the character I have been playing will unequip too.. so I dont get stung by the illegal character blurb again.

I dont think it would be too difficult to do a script that will remove any illegal items to the pack upon logging in rather than just dissallowing the character ill have to look into it. (I am wholeheartedly in favour of mods with Item Level Restriction).

PoA is a nice mod and its stable and bug free though it does have its issue, daft death penalties, max item limits, missing base weapons (dwarven waraxe anyone?), magic items that are very much in certain favour of certain base items... magic longswords etc.. (god help anyone who wants a decent katana or one of the oriental CEP weapons).. this could be remedied by adding Lansolyns crafting system which is done and ready and waiting as far as I know? This is not to say PoA is bad I like it a lot and enjoy playing on it.. but in comparison to Chainmail that offers a lot more I think it should only be used as a temporary home until chainmail's kinks are worked out.

Im not sure about the overwhelming public opinion for PoA over CHAINMAIL Russ mentioned in his post? perhaps there has been more direct comments made to him? as most posts i've seen are favourable for chainmail, where issues have been pointed out its been very much with a veiw to getting those points resolved for the next Beta as opposed to get rid of the module completely?

Anyway enough ramble from me I just hope this isnt the last we see of Chainmail as it is as Chaz rightly states even at its worst, much better than PoA.

Guess I will take this opportunity to make my PoA char 'legal', too. And maybe give my halfling some of the easy level-ups PoA gives to low-levels.

But I prefer Chainmail, Morrus, I really do...

Just wish some of the bugs were gone.

Fug PoA.

I don't know what it is, but I was seeing this before. Logged in with three different chars, and kept seeing folks use the gem exploit. Over and over. When I finally decided to try my third level halfling, the areas were wiped out and over-run with folks WELL past the areas CR.

What gives? Are these the the same folks I saw before, or has everyone been suffering from PoA withdrawal, and just saying screw the norm?

Well my 7th level fighter I chose to take from Chainmail had to do a lot of low level stuff to get quest itmes. I could have been responsible for some of it.
Plus what do you concider below a char's level. Too me it is when 1 gets no xp for kills. In my defense I was getting XP for all my kills all be it low xp but still XP.

On that note I have never seen anything written or otherwise that states x level is not allowed in y area. What is the Norm as you call it? If I am trying to pass through an area say the goblin camp I will kill everything in my path. But I generaly don't go in the cheiftans hut or to the undead around the sarcofagus as they are not in my way.

On a different note. Argh I screwed up on my char last night. I level to 8 and put my atribute point to STR. I forgot I was going to put it in dex to give me 13 to open up feats. Now I have to wait for what 12th level to go the spring attack route. Oh well live and learn.

If anyone that has(or anticipates having) a char high enough level for the drow/underdark... Post somewhere on the forums here and let me know if you want to buy those 'Jade Tooth' items from me. They really help out. I wont mention what they are for here since its gives away to much to those who havent gotten that far yet. If I remember right they go for like 93k+ gold or something like that. Willing to deal a little.

Anyway post here and let me know since you wont see me in game. Chazman(char with the teeth) is in encumbria and is going to stay there since im not selling CHAINMAIL items to get below the item count limit. And all my lower lev chars im not playing either... waiting for CHAINAMIL.

But if interested in the teeth let me know what character(s) you play and that you are interested and I will check from time to time to see if I can catch you on. You will have to meet me in encumbria.

To Morrus: Let me know if I can get a refund on the stronghold & if you might replace an item for me('greater monks gloves' or something like that) that I lost when the server went down. Thanks in advance. :)

Peace

I have a 16th level char ranger/rogue/sd. I know when I went down with a party It would be too tough for me alone. That's why I am taking my Chainmail mod fighter in hopes he'll be able to survive once I get his levels up.

Greylock, could you translate that into English for the non-PoA-savvy?

Sure can. My higher level char was shopping in the Merchants Emporium, getting rid of his high level gear, in case Morrus goes back to Chainmail. Saw one char in particular going to town buying light gems, over and over and over, and selling modded gear back to the merchants. Went Hide-In-Plain-Sight for a while, and ended up watching a whole cast of characters [mostly low level] doing the same thing.

Logged out for a bit, and logged back in with a 3rd level char, intent on exploring the west side of town. In case no one has noticed, the west side of town in for low level chars. Anyone over 6th level or so should visit there only if they have a VERY good reason. Suffice it to say, the areas were awash with 16th level chars and such swiping goodies, killing beetles, and, when not killing them spawning more creatures than my 3rd level could handle.

Basically the kind of behavior that had me leaving PoA for a while.

Last time I played before Chainmail was installed, I was looking for the headpiece for the Staff. A char told me he had it, and asked to meet up, so I did. When I asked him what he was in the hunt for, he said "l00t! XP! Power!lol!". That was the last time I visited PoA.
