Sex and the Single Adventurer

Things happen. In the current game I'm running there are a couple samurai who carouse, but are prepared for when their arranged marriages are...arranged.

Another character is already in the midst of the negotiations for his marriage, but he's much more proper than the others.

That's about it, though. The Vanara is the only one of his kind for a 1,000 miles around. The elf is focused on his wizardly studies. The Mystic Wanderer isn't really the romantic type.

I knew what he meant. "Have sexual relations" or "engage in sexual intercourse" sound so sterile.

Getting laid? That's what my player's PC's do:)

Not only does it sum up the action, in sums up a common attitude all in one shot.

In a long-running game one of the PCs was an elvish fighter who fell in love with a NPC human wizard. It was one of those things that happened without the DM planning. The elf was escapeing from a dungeon and rescued the wizard on her way out. After that they had a lot of time to get to know each other while they trekked across the wilderness. They decided to continue adventureing togather. Anyway, the player thought it would be cool if the two characters hooked up. They were going to get married and stuff later. Then, during one of the adventures, the elf was kidnapped by the wizards evil twin. The evil wizard had his way with the elf before we saved her. There was a great deal of dramatic tension when she started showing as we didn't know which wizard was the father. In addition to the usual reasons to be concerned there was the matter that if the evil wizard was the father, the child would certainly turn out evil as well. This was because they were not twin brothers but the light and dark side of a wizard that had been magically split.

That memorable campaign ended on a high note. We tossed the evil wizard through a portal to the demon dimension where he would presumably be tortured for all eternity. Then we found out that the good wizard was the childs father. The couple were married and retired from adventuring to raise thier son who the mystic had also foretold would have incredible magical power.

First off, I meant no offense to anyone with my post. I phrased things the way I did to avoid getting vulgar and also because in my experience the number of casual and meaningless sexual encounters adventurers have far, far outweigh the number of romantic relationships that are built up- though the romantic relationships tend to be more lasting, take up much more game time, and tend to have a lasting effect on the game (whereas the casual encounters usually don't).

That's what I'm getting at, really- do other dms ever have those casual and meaningless encounters come back to haunt the pcs? In my campaign, for example, one of the pcs has a habit of finding "release" with whatever female is convenient to him, and this is going to lead to some major subplots very soon. I was wondering more or less whether these things come up in the games that other folk run. I do know, f'rex, that Piratecat's campaign has had several npcs (and one pc) fathered by a shiftless wandering elf- kind of role reversal from what I'm talking about imc, but still...

Again, no offense intended, and I apologize if anyone feels that I was bein' a jerk- I certainly didn't intend to! As Oni said, I was trying to convey the attitude just as much as the act. And as I said above, I think romance generally has a much bigger impact on a campaign. (Also, please note that I'm not even concerned with 'the act' itself- more with the repercussions of it.)

I think that if we can keep our OWN opinions separate from our CHARACTER's opinions, we'll be okay in this thread.

I respect women's rights, etc., but I don't feel the need to play a character who does. Sexism is no worse than human sacrifice... and we've all done that, right?

Also for a dowery, my character got a griddle of strom giant strenth, I was playing a cleric, the DM thought something like that would not be bad on me.
Your cleric must have whipped up some really kickass pancakes with THAT bad boy! ;)
