Shades of Netheril (2)

NOTE: I had some wonderful retort planned, but my connection busted. Put simply, PHB rulings will stand 98% of the time, but when mitigating factors are too large, I will be making seperate rulings. I feel that the actions were far to large to do in a three second period (Hmm, everyone seems to think a round is six seconds, but i swear it's three, and if the PHB says six, it is now three (i don't like having one swordstroke every six seconds, realism is nice.))

Sul'Dan, draws his longsword while charging towards the fray and screaming imposingly. The already frightenend Zhents once more break and run. Gavin, fires an arrow from hiding at the mage (4+5=9), but only succeeds in dropping it into the sand near his head. Alexander, fires an arrow (15+6=21) while stepping forward. The arrow impacts with a wet thud into the mage's solar plexus (5) silencing him forever.
Arcanra calls upon his god and heals himself (11+3=14), closing up his wounds. Perplexed, the remaining members of the party begin to cautiously enter the empty camp.

OOC:
First: Retort? to what?

Secondly: I agree Realism is nice but I do have one thing to say. Keep in mind that I'm not arguing with you, just telling you the reason a round is (In campaigns other than yours) 6 seconds:
It is true that a sword strike does not take 6 seconds usually, but most characters also move in a round, draw weapons, drink potions, or even take more attacks. Plus there's the fact that the official stance is that while in any given round characters make several swings or attacks with their weapons, their 'attacks per round' is the number that actually have a chance of getting through... to quote 1st edition
"how silly it would be to think that 2 warriors stand still in front of each other and just take turns swinging at each other every 6 seconds! Combat is filled with many thrusts, parries, and feints that would unnecesarily bog down the pace in any game"
And yes I know that doesn't explain ranged attacks.. Im guessing that (Like bullets) Bolts and arrows and other ammunition just moves so fast it always has a chance of hitting.

IC: ALexander fires off one more arrow after the Zhents, then turns to his steed, and checks its wound (Heal untrained +2 wisdom as move equivalent action)

I keep chasing the Zhents this round. If I can get close enough (base move 40', after all), I'll hack at the rear-most of them with my sword. If I can't, I'll pursue for this round anyway, to make sure they'll keep running.

Grr...

OOC: I am having fun, but, why woun't an arrow go into a target...blah...hehehe

IC:

Gavin takes up postion and fires into any enemies he sees.

No enemies seem to be around, and the party begins to relax as Alexander checks up on his horse. Then, things take a turn for the worse as three blobs of red energy come flying from the general direction of Tores, striking Sul'Dan (8) and jolting hime backwards, but fail to drop him. Now, standing behind the party's resident mage is another mage, but your opponent seems to have a drop on the party. His dagger is poised across the mage's throat, and he has a wand pointed at the party, still smoking from the recently spent magic. He smiles and says "I have your mage, if you wish to see him alive again, you will drop your weapons right now and back away from me."

OoC:Sorry for being away, but I took a rather bad fall at work and smacked my head on the floor last Friday. I'm OK now, pretty much.

IC: Jasper pauses, ready to put a Bolt in the Mage's throat...but wait he does, to see what the other party members do.

OoC:Held action to shoot if I get a clear shot AFTER seeing that we are going attack on this one.

Alexander turns around at the sudden commotion, fighting the sudden urge to swear. Holding his bow nocked but not drawn in one hand (TO his side, a common 'ready but not READY' stance) so as not to seem to threatening. "I did not know that mages were so stupid. If you kill him there shall be nothing stopping us from then killing you, so killing him would do you know good. Perhaps we can work out some other sort of deal that doesn't involve the both of you dieing?" Alexander calls out, trying to get the mages attention from Waaay over where he is. He is sure that his speed is quick enough to be able to fire off an arrow if anything starts to go down (Quickdraw, readied action to fire if battle breaks out.)
