Flint and steel for relighting torches in the dark? Rope does seem like an obvious choice. The crowbar too, perhaps as it can double as a weapon.

Maybe the reduced damage (relative to a real weapon) is worth it for the + to hit?

I'd probably just call it a club? The bonus for jimmying stuff open might be worth it, IDK. Rope seems like a better bet (assuming there will be verticality, or bondage, or whatever). The whip is obviously the superior choice though.

I'm still really intrigued with this idea of applying Trusty Gear to a non-weapon item (type). But what kind?
Rope?
Torches?

Those two are probably the top choices. Once those are covered, probably thieves tools, so the Delver can be a back-up thief when needed.

It occurred to me that there are some magic items that require rolls. If you acquired one of those, and then later rolled the right talent....

Except SD doesn't actually have thieves' tools. They are 'assumed' as part of the abilities they scaffold. It's something I think could be added for the very reason you mention though. Or even just lock picks.

I never played Dark Sun. Similar concept?

It's an interesting idea; spend a fairly high level spell slot in order to make your subsequent spells more effective, but can't move around very much.
