Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

I've enjoyed it thus far. I am on session 4 of this adventure and can easily see it going for another 2-4 sessions. The sessions run between 2 1/2 to 3 hrs a week, and my players take their time with the adventure.

I personally love how much little stuff there is to do and how many paths lead to dealing with the Wyrm. I feel like if I ran this back with a different group I would be doing all new stuff.
OK, more content than expected. I will definitely put it on my list.

Once the Shadow League starts up next year, I was planning on running Tomb of the Serpent Kings in my local store over two to three weeks, but after that, this might be a good adventure to run for a month or so.

Oh man TotSK! I had read through that either early this year or late last year and it seems like another fun dungeon to play. I have to find my copy again and maybe it'll be the next dungeon I throw at these guys.

I love how cross compatible OSR games with one another. I've done AD&D's N1:Against the Cult of the Reptile God, Necrotic Gnome's Barrow of the Bone Blaggards from their Adventure Anthology 2, and now BWoB. It has been some of the most fun I've had with TTRPGs, much better than my attempts with Pathfinder back in the day lol.

I always find it interesting how much folks lean into old adventures with Shadowdark. That's great, I guess, but never once have I wanted to use the game for that. I much prefer the style of adventures we see in the Cursed Scrolls.

Same here. I find old adventures often don't hold up, now that I've read so many good things since.

If I was tempted to play through Village of Hommlett, I'd be more likely to just make a new one from scratch with a detailed home base, a low level small site based adventure, a less safe secondary home base and then a mega-dungeon near that.

What drew me to adventures like Against the Cult of the Reptile God were videos like Matt Colville's on the subject. SD gave me the opportunity to play it with the naive belief I wouldn't had to adapt much.

While I enjoyed it, I did have to put in a lot of work to make it enjoyable for me and my players. I don't think I'd want to run it again in it's original form or would probably just use it as a framework rather than a pick up and play adventure.

I've much preferred the OSE adventures to the old school adventures from AD&D days.
