Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

I would love to hear more about the development of this campaign as it comes together. This sounds like a lot of fun and the idea of taking an elevator down into the dungeon, letting the PCs out into a lightless corridor, is a great visual.
I'll keep this thread updated. I have a sketch of a replacement for carousing called "office politics" that starts like this:
OFFICE POLITICS MANEUVERS

One thing with "Power Lunch" is that the PCs will be presumed to be modern earth humans. Is there a reason in Shadowdark to reconsider that? Does Shadowdark lose anything in play by limited species to human?

Factually correct. The balance between the ancestries is one of SD's best features though, IMO anyway. I always hated that demihumans in D&D were so much better than humans.
Yeah, it's actually a hard decision picking an ancestry, since all of them have something really good going on. Goblins are probably the weakest, but if you have a game where surprise is important, that suddenly becomes a super power.

In a dungeon focused game I think its still pretty good.
Yeah, that's definitely one of the situations where it shines. But I was thinking that in the City of Masks, for instance, which is going to be more socially focused, not being surprised will be less useful than being able to go invisible once a day, for instance, or starting off with two talents at level one.

But it's a good problem to have, having too many ancestries that are so competitive.
