Shaman questions

The healing boon doesn't say target with a healing power, it says use one. So I'd think it works when you target someone else with the healing power and also use it on them. The immunity to close and area attack is so enemies have to specifically waist an attack to get rid of your spirit. Winking it out is an attack you DIDN'T take. And spirits can 'shift' for 2 of your minor actions sorta. Unsummon then summon anywhere 20 squares or less from you.

Hm, the spirit isn't listed as able to shift... just move when you do. Although a shift is a move action, so maybe it was supposed to be implied. I'd say it does trigger OAs, though, because that's (normally) a melee attack, and those can be used on the spirit.

The type of action used to attack doesn't matter, only it's it melee or ranged. And I'd agree you can't use Area or Close attacks on it, so that you can't hit the Shaman and dispel the spirit for double damage. Conjurations can only be attacked if the power specifically says so, and Call Spirit Companion only says it can be targetted by melee or ranged. If it meant more, presumably it would simple say it can be targeted by attacks in general or something.

Do you people really think that this means that the spirit CAN'T be targeted by area or close attacks?

Yeah, I do. Because of the rules people already pointed out, and because of the action economy: if the spirit can be targetted by area attacks, it's likely to die just as a side effect of a monster attacking a PC. (Or of a PC attacking a monster.) Especially since the spirit grants lots of bonuses to adjacent allies. If the spirit can only be targetted by melee and ranged attacks, then the monster has to specifically spend an action to destroy it, which most of the time wouldn't be worthwhile.

FWIW, customer service answers:

The Spirit Companion is a conjuration and does not provoke opportunity attacks, however, it is affected by area of effect attacks.

The ally adjacent to your Spirit Companion that gets the additional healing will also enjoy the benefits of the Protector's Spirit Boon.

So I guess when they say melee and ranged attacks, they mean all attacks.

Seems like the wording on Protector's Spirit Boon could be clearer. Instead of:

Any ally adjacent to your spirit companion regains additional hit points equal to your Constitution modifier when he or she uses second wind or when you use a healing power on him or her.

It could say:

Any ally adjacent to your spirit companion regains additional hit points equal to your Constitution modifier when he or she uses second wind or when he or she regains hit points from one of your healing powers.
