Hmm. Well I suspect the Paladin 6/Sorceror 6/Eldritch Knight 8 can now pull off some really really nasty polymorph tricks. He starts of riding his warhorse, quick dismounts then casts polymorph, sharing the spell with his familiar and his warhorse. He turns into a Stone Giant and they both turn into trolls (or girallons) for rending goodness. Alternately they could (all 3) turn into Tedriculoses and swallow their opponenets whole.

Having them all within five feet of each other would thrill the enemy Invoker to no end, also. Plus the grins of seeing them all running around together like in a three legged race.

That is how I read it 'it stops affecting the animal companion if the companion moves farther than 5 feet away' I don't think they can run around seperately In fact they cannot.

Trollic three legged races anyone? A chorus line of Garillions?

That would be a sight to see.

Quote from SRD below

Share Spells (Ex): At the druid’s option, she may have any spell (but not any spell-like ability) she casts upon herself also affect her animal companion. The animal companion must be within 5 feet of her at the time of casting to receive the benefit. If the spell or effect has a duration other than instantaneous, it stops affecting the animal companion if the companion moves farther than 5 feet away and will not affect the animal again, even if it returns to the druid before the duration expires.

It's why the Su abilities clause from Tome and Blood was so nice for Paladins - feats like Divine Might could be applied to the Dire Lion mount, to give it + Cha bonus on every attack in its Pounce... and since the Paladin was riding the lion, they were always within 5 feet...

If you've got the prep time, remember that you can cast Personal spells on your familiar without the stay-within-5' limitation, but you don't get the benefit yourself in that case.

Even if they all stay within 5ft to each other, given the paladins saves and the mounts as well the familiars improved evasion, I don't see too many problems with the three legged troll :D
