The sequel to 2009's Sherlock Holmes is scheduled to hit theaters this coming December 16th.

This time Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson will be after Holmes' arch-nemesis Professor James Moriarty (played by Mad Men's Jared Harris).

It's interesting that the title character's traditional arch-nemesis is featured in the second film of the series, much like in the Christopher Nolan Batman series.

I saw a preview for this when I went to see Harry Potter 7.

I'm not opposed to the way they did Holmes and Watson in the last film, and I don't think it's the greatest version of Holmes ever. But I thought it wasn't bad for a film.

But in my opinion the previews I saw for this film made it look much, much better than the first film. Of course it's only previews. Doesn't mean it will be good, but it looked pretty good to me from what I could tell.

They also showed a preview of Dark Knight Rises which pretty much convinced me that Batman will fight Bane. I'm hoping that Bane will break his back and that this will be the way they end this particular series of Batman films. I'm also wondering if they're gonna throw in the earthquake. I hope so.

I wonder if, when FFG gets a hold of the license, we'll have "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows: The Movie the Boardgame, based on the Novels and Short Stories . . . and screenplay."

I really enjoyed the first movie. I hope that this one is successful enough for them to make a third move... and a fourth... and a sixth....

It was passable. There was not enough refinement of the screenplay for it to qualify as good, and it's especially disappointing that Noomi Rapace is under-utilized. Still, the action sequences are entertaining (because there are reasons for them), even though the climactic one is a tad melodramatic.
