Shield Other + Damage Reduction

What about spell resistance?

Your spell resitance never interferes with your own spells. Also if you cast it on someone else who has spell resistance you have to contend with their SR as you cast SHield other, unless they took the standard action to willingly lower thier SR. Either way, when the wounds come a calling, SR does not help in any way. SR may prevent the spell recipient from being damaged, but the Shield Other spell is already going by that time.

Please bear with me as I slightly hijack this thread. I've seen a couple of questions lately about what happens when the caster/creature of a spell/spell-like/supernatural effect dies. So what happens when the cleric dies because of Shield Other ? Does the target still take half damage (it seems so, unless you count "being dead" as "being further away than the spell range")? Does Shield Other still deal the remaining half to the poor cleric? Would this render the corpse uneligible for Raise Dead after a while?

I would let the spell continue to work for the remainder of its duration. This would be somewhat difficult to abuse, and I suspect it would come up so rarely that any "abuse" of it would be interesting enough to them get away with.

I don't think I'd ever rule that the post-mortem damage would make the corpse unusable, except in an extreme case. I might make that kind of ruling if the target of the spell were dropped in lava, for example. But I doubt it.

Dead bodies are objects now, so it looks like the average human body has about hardness 2, and 15 hit points, and takes 1/2 damage from fire and electricity and ranged weapons, and 1/4 damage from cold. :p

Also, a few applications of the Mending spell can fix some of the damaged body parts.
