A 10th-level fighter has the shock trooper feat, and a total of +18 to hit, including BAB and all bonuses. He heedless charges for 10. Before his next turn he makes an AoO. What is his bonus to hit for this attack? +18 or +8?

+8. And that's what it would be even without Shock Trooper.

I disagree. The character's heedless charge -10 applies to his AC, not his attack roll. I don't see why it would change after the initial attack, especially since he keeps his -10 to AC all round.

I was wondering about it because I was planning on taking shock trooper for my warblade PC but I need a defence against my foe's full attack if the charge doesn't kill them.

Wall of Blades + 20 ft reach (Enlarge Person + reach weapon) looks good but WoB will only work if shock trooper doesn't apply the penalty to hit.

Karmic Strike/Robilar's Gambit is another possibility which, again, needs a good to hit.

Actually why wouldnt it be +18 to hit and -12 to AC( as you ordinarily lose two to AC from charging?)

It would be as you say. -12 to AC for the round, and +20 on the charge attack (and +18 the rest of the round). And yes, the key to making heedless charge awesome is not suffering the consequences afterwards. MY character with it uses Knockback for that purpose. The party mage could also delay till after you, then Benign Transposition you with the next melee fighter in the initiative count (who now can full attack), among other tactics.
