Shot on the run question

Belares

First Post
I had a discussion with a friend on shot on the run. He thinks you can use all of your attacks and still get your normal movement. I on the other hand says that you cannot if you take multiple shots, due to the full attack rule concerning movement.

SHOT ON THE RUN [GENERAL]
Prerequisites: Dex 13, Dodge, Mobility, Point Blank Shot, base attack bonus +4.

Benefit: When using the attack action with a ranged weapon, you can move both before and after the attack, provided that your total distance moved is not greater than your speed.

Special: A fighter may select Shot on the Run as one of his fighter bonus feats.

The phrase "using the attack action with a ranged weapon" is ambiguous, but I mean it to believe one attack only, not multiple attacks, including extra attack due to haste.

Also can one have more than one attack a round with a crossbow (light or heavy)? Light, I could see, but heavy??

Attack action not attack - the attack action is single attack only.

If you have the rapid reload feat and a light crossbow (or a magically loading crossbow) then you can get multiple shots, otherwise it is just the one attack.

Rapid Reload gives a free attack now?

Belares, your friend is wrong for a couple of reasons. As BeauNiddle points out, the feat only works with the attack action - not the full attack action, which a character needs to use to get multiple attacks in a round. Furthermore, if a character takes a full attack action, he/she can only take a 5' step for movement for that round. How could you move before and after your attack when you're only allowed a single short move?

Shot on the run allows 1 attack, period. It can not be combined with Manyshot. It can not be combined with a full attack. It allows 1 shot.

The following is incorrect. Sorry. Brain Fart.

If you want to use this feat, I suggest building towards the Order of the Bow Initiate Class from the CW book. Precise Strike is the best way to add damage to the SotR damage.

Isn't the Order of the Bow Initiate's Ranged Precision ability a standard action not an attack action and therefore not eligible to be used during a Shot on the Run?

What I meant to say is that this feat works well with alternative damage additions like 3.0's Order of the Bow Initiate's sneak attack damage, 3.5 rogue sneak attack damage and ranger favored enemy damage.

No, he was answering the second question - Rapid Reload allows you to make more than one attack in a FAA with a light or hand crossbow, assuming you have multiple attacks to use in the first place.

Why not? Isn't Manyshot considered one standard attack?

Manyshot is a standard action.
The attack action is a standard action.
Casting Magic Missile is a standard action.

That doesn't mean that casting Magic Missile is the attack action, nor is Manyshot the attack action.

Shot on the Run only works with the attack action with a ranged weapon. Not with just any attack made as a standard action.

Since Manyshot is its own standard action, not the attack action, it cannot be used in conjunction with Shot on the Run.
